Part I in an indeterminate series, Viscera Contra explores the historical consolidation and redefinition of our bodies; an inquiry as to where we etch our boundary lines and where a vast intermingling root structure tugs our collective imagination and will. In our current predicament, awash in media warring over its claim to our ideas of individual personhood, representation and identity, it is worth investigating the tethers that bind us to one another, to our physical, visceral world and to the shared past which, whether benign or malign, unites us. The entities and structures which influence and leverage power over these connections to ourselves and each other will play a significant role in shaping the stories we tell and the futures we create. What do we feel comfortable relinquishing, and what will we fight tooth and nail to retain?
