Boredom had set in, he'd been waiting here since dawn had broken and the sun had peered its head above the horizon. No meeting time had been given, only a location and date, so he couldn't let impatience get the better of him, he had no right to complain. He dug his foot into the ground and kicked up the dust, watching it rise and settle before repeating the same action, over and over. Perhaps this would make time move faster, he thought to himself, and whoever extended this mysterious invitation would appear amidst a cloud of dust.

Over the decade that he's been producing, Cheb Runner has quickly become synonymous with fusing the sounds of his homelands: Morocco and Belgium. On his next release, and the second record on Brussels label Oddball Fantasies, these two influences permeate the four tracks, resulting in a meeting of old and new sounds. Titled Raï Beat System, Cheb effortlessly blends elements of traditional Raï, Belgian New Beat and 80s electro with a fresh electronic touch.

Kam Min Janneh (Arabic for How Many Heavens) is a 16-track studio album produced by Acamol and Julmud with lyrics written and performed by Haykal @haykalonol and Julmud @julmud-1. The musicians immerse us in their vanguard contemporary interpretation of various living musical traditions in the Arab world, produced and envisaged from within the soundscapes of Palestine. Acamol and Julmud’s broken beats, chopped bass lines, and bleeding textured melodies progress and delay in concurrent unison with Haykal's lyrics, each verse landing as a punch in the gut. Creating an album that reflects the urgency of the years of its making, a call to break away from the current world, and a call to mobilize towards its unmaking. Haykal’s verses are rich and humorous, agitational, and frustrated, shifting and layering throughout the album, as he summons many voices that oftentimes utter politically lucid statements while at others pronounce disdain through performatively diabolical remarks, while Acamol’s and Julmud’s compositions and audial interventions lay the infrastructural basis for an emergent sound from below the soil, declaring the cracks and twitches in the muscles of the colonized and disfigured at verge of a ceremonial eruption.

'كم من جَنّة' ألبوم يضم ست عشرة مقطوعة، من إنتاج أكامول وجلمود، بكلمات نسجها وأدّاها هيكل وجلمود. يأخذنا الموسيقيون في قراءة طليعية معاصرة لمختلف التقاليد الموسيقية الحيّة في العالم العربي، قراءة تولد من رحم المشاهد الصوتية لفلسطين وتستمد روحها منها. إيقاعات أكامول وجلمود المتكسّرة، وأصوات الباس المتقطّعة، والألحان النازفة، تتداخل وتتماوج في انسجامٍ متزامنٍ مع كلمات هيكل، حيث يهبط كل مقطع غنائي كلكمةٍ في الأحشاء. ولادةُ الألبوم تعكس حالة الطوارئ التي سادت السنوات التي أُنتجَ خلالَها، دعوةٌ للانفصال عن هذا العالم القائم، وصرخةً تعبويّة تدعو إلى تفكيكه وإعادة تخيّله. مقاطع هيكل الغنائية ثريّة ومرِحة، مشحونة بالتحريض ومثقلة بالإحباط، تتحوّل وتتراكم على امتداد الألبوم، فيما يستحضر أصواتاً شتّى تنطق في بعض الأحيان بعباراتٍ سياسيّة صافية، وتنطق في أحيان أخرى بالازدراء، عبر تعليقات أدائيّة جهنميّة، فيما تضعُ مؤلفاتُ أكامول وجلمود وتدخّلاتهما السمعيّة أساس بنية تحتيّة جذريةًّ لصوتٍ ناشئ من تحت التراب، كاشفة التشققات والارتعاشات في عضلات المستعمَرين والمشوَّهين على حافة انفجار طقسي.
