Serpentine grooves, chest-rattling bass and dextrous melodies - this week's mix highlights the intensity and magnetism of Parisian producer Sylvere. In 2021, Sylvere signs to Monkeytown, Modeselektor/Moderat's Berlin label, where he has released a series of EPs in three parts, the last of which, EP3, was made public in October 2023. There he broke new ground with his thundering basslines, which combine techno, rave music and Caribbean sound system culture with ease. As a producer, his heavy-hitting, mesmeric tracks have established him as one of the most exciting new voices in bass music. Through his radical arts collective LA CREOLE, Sylvere has been an essential figure in championing marginalized sounds and communities, creating an inclusive space on the dancefloor for consciousness-raising, “partying as a form of campaigning” as they put it. It was a pleasure to have him to start off this year's mixes, enjoy.

recorded live at EXIT in Glasgow :) i wrote a little bit about my approach to this set below:

at the start of a new year i like to reflect and set intentions for the coming year through some ritualistic form. 2023 for me, like many, was a time of going inward and exploring aspects of my life needing release, and rediscovering the parts which i have the deepest connections to. reflecting on my belief that music can be a healing and connective force, i approached this mix with the intention of sharing this with others. many of the tracks included discovered me at the right time like they were sent from some galactic tannoy in the sky.

i am incredibly grateful to be a conduit for this music which gives me so much and to have the opportunity to share this with likeminded people :’)
