aka “Scott Ruffing”, aka “Sparky”, aka “MC Spark-D”… This Dj, Producer, Artist, Promoter, MC, is a old school up and comer, born and bred in Orlando Breaks. That life changing 90’s scene in Orlando opened his eyes and his soul to music and there has been little to stop him. Since then, Sparky has shared the stages with tons of artists like Dj’s Icey, Infiniti, Dynamix II, Huda, Magic Mike, OnDaMike, Tony Faline, EGL and Dave London…. Just to name a few.

Music has always been a part of Alexanders life. Spending his early years in West Virginia and North Carolina, jazz, country, classical and rock 'n roll were a large part of his listening diet at a young age. His dad would turn on some Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson while tinkering around the house. The sounds of Luciano Pavarotti would accompany breakfast on a Sunday morning. Other times, Elvis Presley would shake up a family gathering while young Alexander danced the night away. In the mid 1980's, the sounds of Michael Jackson could be heard playing on his Fisher Price tape player. Later that decade, his tastes steered towards the hard sounds of big hair bands like Metallica, Motley Crue and Def Leopard. As the 90's took form, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and the surge of grunge music held his ear. He enjoyed a multitude of genres from new age and hip hop to alternative and punk. Nothing went unheard.

In 1994, Alexander would hear a song that made a lasting impression in his world of music. That song was Jam and Spoon's "Right In The Night". Taken by the heavenly vocals and sweet melodies, his introduction into the world of electronic music had been made. At the start of his journey, Rabbit in the Moon, Keoki, and Future Sounds of London were some of the first listened to by the future artist. Classic songs like Out of Body Experience, Two Full Moons and a Trout, To A Nation Rockin', and Mother Earth were, and still are, instant favorites. Intrigued by what he had heard so far he listened further. Luckily, he didn't have to go much further than downtown.

As a resident of Florida for the past 25 years, Alexander had the privilege of experiencing one of the worlds most important and astonishing movements in the history of dance and electronic music. During the early and mid 1990's, Orlando was put on the map with it's fresh new "breakbeat" sound. Combining hip hop, electro, freestyle and a variety of other styles and sounds, Florida Breaks was what Alexander fell in love with. Pioneer DJs and personal influences D-Xtreme, Kimball Collins, and Dave Cannalte were those responsible for bringing in and playing out the new sounds taking Orlando's clubs by storm. He missed clubs "Aahz" and "Abyss" which was where it all began. Entering the scene in late '94 and '95, "The Edge" and "Firestone" were in full swing. The Edge was the first club he set foot in and was immediately swept off his feet. Never before had he seen such an array of sights, sounds, and people all following the same groove. He knew this is where he wanted to be.

While listening to DJ Icey, Friction and Spice, Mike and Charlie and other groundbreaking artists, he found The Club at Firestone and called it home. Turning out to be the mecca of all clubs during it's time, Firestone was ranked the #1 club in the world by Rolling Stone magazine in 1995 and 1996. DJs D-Xtreme and Robby Clark led the lineup as the party raged on into the early hours every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Showcasing a number of unparalleled acts and talents The Club closed its doors in 1998 with the passing of anti-rave laws by mayor Glenda Hood. As the scene started to fade into the limelight, Alexander listened on and hungered for more. Already the owner of a small vinyl collection, he finally purchased his first set of turntables in 1999. His taste for funky breaks matured to a more progressive and intelligent sound. Hybrid and Way Out West were now at the top of his personal charts. Other names in his library of favorites include Hardkiss, Stanton Warriors, Plump DJs, Ils, Bassbin Twins, Deekline, Adam Freeland and Uberzone.

After getting tired of playing to the walls and whichever friends were in earshot, Alexander made the decision to take art of mixing a more serious. His sound and technique was reworked and refined by his close friend and fellow artist, local pioneer DJ D-Xtreme. His first professional appearance came at WMC 2009. He opened the Gatecrasher party for headliners George Acosta and Filo and Peri at Voyage in Miami. At this point, there was no going back. Still a resident of Orlando and still under the watchful supervision of D-Xtreme, Alexander continues to improve his skills as a DJ and looks forward to a promising future in the electronic music industry.
