🌓 Dawn Patrol

Mit 'Da Float' erschien von DJ Balduin bereits Ende 2022 eine EP, die uns aus der jahresendzeitlichen Lethargie riss und mit ihrer nostalgisch-verwaschenen Euphorie mal wieder zeigte, dass die Bestenlisten nie zu früh fertig geschrieben sein dürfen. Jetzt folgt - ebenfalls auf dem Leipziger Kultlabel KANN - 'Concrete Mimosa', verquickt dabei verschiedenste süßsaure Wohlfühlelemente elektronischer Musik auf Albumlänge und legt damit direkt nochmal einen drauf. Wir haben deshalb bei DJ Balduin angerufen und mit ihm über Ironie in der Kunst, Blockaden beim Produzieren und dem "Dazwischen" gesprochen.

This Is Our Time warmly welcomes Tifra from Utrecht into the TIOT family and super pumped to have his five-track EP titled 'Coral Fractals' in its catalogue. "The EP gives a nice reflection imo of different sounds I like to produce" - wrote the artist for us, so let's see what kind tracks we got from this wide palette.

We start off with the lively 'Ahora', synth rays emerging from multi-layered drum patterns chased by restless acid serpents, a track that effortlessly shakes you up and gets your blood pumping. Next up is the EP's title track, 'Coral Fractals'. A dark and ominous tech-stomper rolling with the weight of the ocean with small chirps that rise from the depths like bubbles.

We find ourselves entangled in mycelium with the goa trance '4th Dimension' with its constantly coiling melodies and floating harmonies. Cueing up the last two tracks first we have 'Copal' where Tifra pulls influence from the early/mid-90s progressive house tracks sprinkling in some classic voice sample just to complete the warehouse rave feel. The EP closer is 'Gloomy Glitch' a sinister and menacing low-mid tempo ritual, leaving us with an eerie feeling at the end of this journey.

Rising star Remotif returns to Especial with a full complement of his “trance fusion”, a modern-day ethnicity of breakbeat techno dance music. With releases on Coymix, and Space Lab, as well as soon appearing on the cult label Avidya, plus a burgeoning DJ career from Fabric to Berlin’s seminal Warning parties, his time and space is now.

A standout inclusion on the last Especial sampler “Comunion Especial” (EES040) was a prescient to a pure natural ability to create hypnotic grooves. Part of the burgeoning Bristol scene Joe “Remotif” Reddick has steadily built a series of releases and admirers, a psychedelic swirl of bouncing beats, oscillating rhythms and trippy vox that capture a moment of merging zeitgeist.

Starting with U 15, this is prime time, jacking Remotif, where melody, samples, and beats angelate, stretch and absorb, almost devotional, but always engaging the feet and mind, a blissful science, daring shanti awakenings.

Deep and dripping, the organic ooze of Glint's Pursuit follows. Tribal percussion, shimmery timbres, siren vocals, the sharpness created by slowing the bpms giving oxygen to our experience. Rising, rising.

The Elevated Place sums much of Remotif’s music. His personal highs (and lows) encompassed via sound design. Acidic, nocturnal, skywards, the unquantifiable stream of emotion is in there, a very genuine capturing of a personal journey wrought from machines, translating into a musical form. The lost chord, the funk electric. Whichever, the drop ethereal, the breaks supertight, the hope unrelenting. An apt EP title.

The end (for now) an inverse to Joe’s universe. The space between, the afters, the dub, the mantra, nodding to Bristol’s music history, The Sunken Place is a groove-led, break-neck, trip-not, head-swinging, deftly-made electronic micro-symphony. From the 90s to the 20’s, San Francisco to Stroom, Remotif rides the signal.

Like a phoenix from the ashes, or Ukrainian culture after centuries of demolition, the Kyiv based label Noneside Records is experiencing its revival and rebirth. After all, «Nothing will stop an idea whose time has come» - these words of chief Stepan Bandera make it clear to everyone: if you really burn with sincere emotion for your dream - no difficulties will stop you on the way to its realization. Five unique tracks from Slava Los, Yevhenii Loi, Lostlojic, Luschn and aqua. - is a tech house with elements of trance with soul and passion from musicians who write music despite the war. Visualization of the whole action on the record is the picture «The hug» by the Lviv artist Oles Derega.

Slava Los makes his debut on vinyl with the beautiful track «Snus» - old school trance in the best traditions. The author now defends the borders in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so he decided to fulfill his old dream about the vinyl. Yevhenii Loi is also currently in the military, but this did not prevent him from making a new version of «Bounce» - a trance for a slow, erotic dance mood. Lostlojic, who is also the art director of the project, recalls the important message of «Send Me F16» in the uncompromising track of the same name, or rather in its VIP version created especially for the release. Known to vinyl collectors for releases on Deeptrax and Infinite Pleasure. Luschn, a Kyiv legend and mega productive musician, known to tech house maniacs for his releases on Vector.Kyiv and Noneside, invites you to have fun and crazy dances with friends to his rehearsed «Ostinato Transdanz». Newbie aqua. has a unique recognizable style, where the rhythm is constantly changing in each track, nostalgic for the favorite place of childhood - near the Hydroelectric Station in Zaporizhzhia, crazy beats and steppe motifs in the track «H.E.S.».
