Atmospheric swells are pieced by gatling-gun snares; the tension builds but never releases, making this a surefire precursor to the bulk of heavyweight set climaxes you're likely to hear this summer. 2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

After the long-awaited debut by ComixXx („The Great Escape“) on Sonar Kollektiv, we get another stunning single release with „Broken Connection“. Sung by Pete Josef this is one of many standout tracks of the 14 piece strong oeuvre.

The first remix is by Berlin producer Maurycy Zimmermann aka Mooryc. And he snatches right into his bag of tricks to pull out a bagpipe for the intro fanfare, or a vinyl crackling to lend the song some subtle nostalgia. It remains his very own secret though, where the hell he got that female voice from, that suddenly duets with Josef out of the blue. Anyway, the beat drags pantingly along the piano turning the rather cheerful original composition in next to no time into a bittersweet ballad.

Kalipo takes things not much less melancholic. The native Bavarian residing now in Berlin and known as a member of the electropunk outfit Frittenbude doesn't slows down the pace but uses subtly sprinkled synth chords lifting Josef's vocals through the clouds. A remix made for the wee hours of the morning after the party full of heartache and longing.
The third and last remix is done by Aanbreken. He also puts his full concentration on the vocals and builds his framework of slightly broken beats and distorted synths around them. The arrangement is the fine art of “tease & denial”.

Since first bursting on to the scene a few years ago now thanks to his affiliation with Luciano's Cadenza imprint, Lee van Dowski has quickly emerged as one of Switzerland's most treasured and consistent house exports. For his latest release he lands on Crosstown Rebels sub-label Rebellion for the release of his 'high hitting' ‘Quasar 27.3' EP and we have to say it's a cracker. 

Offering up four cuts of serious distinction the release is an exercise in versatility, showcasing the Geneva based producer's multi-faceted take on house, packing expertly snipped vox, entrancing percussion and bags of emotion into one slickly delivered EP. Our pick of the bunch? Why 'If Only Jack Was Here' of course! We'll readily admit that we're as in the dark as you are as to who Jack is and why he's so missed but we guess that's for Lee to know and us to find out. As shadowy as it is intense, it makes for the most cinematic of openers, leading listeners into the EP with aplomb. 

Expect to hear plenty more of this one as the nights begin to drawn in...

Whether he's a well-known producer working incognito or a new face in the scene, Echoes Of October makes every effort to unite genres in his melodic techno tracks. Mind The Black Moon is his first release on Ardor and it features two solo productions, a collaboration and a remix, all four delivering a euphoric sensation. The release is an innovated collection of emotional sounds that's not tethered to any specific style. 

The A-Side opener 'Black Moon' floats cosmic arpeggios over a polished bassline, followed by dark synth-sirens and a hypnotic delayed vocal loop. The second solo 'Confusion' sounds like it's been taken out of a deep freeze, with crisp, piercing details. It builds up on a rolling synth line into a mystic spoken vocal before things take an uprising turn ending in a main theme melody like a chainsaw. 

Hotflush Recordings and Life And Death rostered artist Locked Groove's remix of 'Confusion' transforms many of the original elements into another sphere. Delayed bells and hats, a driving drummed bassline, additional soft strings and vocals will lead into losing yourself and drift away. 

Last but not least, 'Perseo' completes this release with the collaboration of the Italian-based talent and Be Free label head honcho Jäger. The deepest thread on this EP glides along in airy percussive chugs and rides on endless arpeggio variations. The stretched arc of suspense finds its finale with a non-expected deep toned piano stab.
