Introducing Blondy.

Blondy, a force to be reckoned with in the DJ scene, hails from South Wales in the UK - the alias Blondy came about by combining both a reminder of her past before music and moving forward with creating a brand using the name it finally stuck, after many peers knowing her by the nickname 'Blondy', solidifying her commitment to being the best version of herself carrying her brand wherever she goes.

Blondy's journey began when she secured a coveted spot in the Made in Roath, an artist-run organisation focused on contemporary art practice in Cardiff's east. This opportunity led her to immerse herself in a radio/soundscaping course, culminating in her hosting a remarkable 24-hour radio show on Solstice Day 2021 and unveiling her first recorded guest mix.

Fuelled by her passion for connecting with like-minded artists, Blondy found a perfect fit within the roster of Concrete Junglists—a Cardiff-based global streetwear brand renowned for its thrilling jungle and drum and bass events across the UK. Concrete Junglists, an imprint with a rich history and a reputation for nurturing underground talent, welcomed her into their family with open arms.

Blondy's breakthrough sets in South Wales and the South West earned her well-deserved recognition and a strong online support network. Advocating for chronic illnesses and hidden disabilities, an aspect close to her heart, she fearlessly continues to flourish and create captivating content, even during times of recovery from flare-ups. Her determination knows no bounds—Blondy refuses to let anything stand in the way of pursuing her dreams.

Blondy's DJ career is adorned with an impressive array of credentials, featuring support for artists such as Mantra, LTJ Bukem, Hollie-May, Bou, Fixate, Distrupta, DJ Hybrid, Mrs Magoo, [IVY], Chickaboo, Aries, Coco Bryce, Kara, K Motionz, Upgrade, and a host of other incredible talents. She has also had the honour of playing for renowned events and labels in the scene, including Born on Road, Full Spectrum, Just be, Heft, 1 More Thing, Rumble in the Jungle, NRG, Noise makers, Shwsh, Linked, and more.

In 2022, Blondy secured her first festival booking, a spot at Big Love Festival during the Concrete Junglists takeover—an electrifying moment in her career. Her talent and skill shone bright, capturing the attention of music enthusiasts and industry insiders alike.

The following year, Blondy took center stage at Balter Festival 2023, captivating a crowd of 3,500 in Chepstow. This incredible feat solidified her position as a force to be reckoned with, and her dedication to her craft earned her the respect and recognition she truly deserved.

Guided by the support of Concrete Junglists members, Blondy's journey has been a remarkable one. Rising from humble beginnings, she now stands proudly as part of the new generation of DJs shaping South Wales' vibrant underground culture. Few newcomers have achieved what she has, especially while navigating the challenges of physical health demands.

Blondy's guest mix is a thrilling journey through the diverse sub-genres of drum and bass that initially sparked her passion for DJing. From the lively and energetic jump-up, which she hasn't played in a while, to the mesmerising drums and amens of ragga dnb—her signature style—this mix encompasses the essence of her musical evolution.

While Blondy has refined her focus on jungle and ragga dnb, this mix pays homage to her roots and showcases her versatility. Although she no longer regularly plays jump-up, the inclusion of tunes crafted by her friends and fellow producers from Wales adds a personal touch, making it a heartfelt tribute to her community.

I’ve always been into all sorts of dance music, from House and UKG to Old Skool Hardcore and Techno, Breaks, Bass, 130, 140, 160 (yes I realise I’m just saying numbers now but I think you get the point). I’m into lots of different music not just drum and bass.  

So with that and for this podcast I’ve recorded some vinyls, pested mates for track ids and delved deep back into the world of House, Garage and Bass for a 90 min journey through past present and future music. And I suppose that’s the ethos behind the event; Be_Social

The idea is to bring people together through music - ditch the socials and screens for an evening, come shake a leg and catch 2 joke.  And what better way to do that with a bunch of timeless classics, a fair dose of bass heavy bangers and some fresh meat in there for the hungry ones.
