I can honestly say music saved my life from the gangs and drugs living in the rough neighborhood of Little Village.   My brother (Frank Yanez) was mixing before I was.   I need to thank him for turning me on to it.   I spent many hours next door practicing with Tony "Getdown" Gvozden, Frausto "The Snowman", & Miguel Avitia.   My boys from The Stylistic Party Crew!  Shout out to the SPP's.
Soon after, I wanted my own crew of dj's.   I hooked up with "HotMix" Louie (now known as Luis Segura), Steve "The Madmixer" (RIP Steve Estrada) and myself, oh... I was known then as "Smooth Spinning" Johnny.  (You can laugh). We formed a team called Universal Dance Production and then Hypnotic Sounds.  I then  joined Fusion Dance Promotions with Pedro Rodriguez and the Fusion Crew.

I started mixing at the young age of 10 years old.  Mixing these very jams your about to hear on this mix!  To me these are the CLASSICS that I remember listening to on WCYC and WBMX! So I hope you enjoy this one, cause it's a rare one I tell you!  I started my musical career with these and I wanted to end it with them.   Retired but the music still flows through my veins. My sister Bobbi lost her fight with cancer last friday (7/6/12).

She was the most beautiful,loving, fun, joyful, exciting, eclectic, funny, witty, generous....you get the idea.  Before she passed, I was able to have one last chat and the most important thing she said to me was "KEEP PLAYING, PLAY GOOD".

Without her, I wouldn't have started my journey, entertaining for over 25 years.  She used to take me to Loop Records on the Blue Line when I was 12 years old and buy me records.  She is a huge fan of House Music.  She is MY HOUSE HEAD!!!

So in Her Honor...I have created a 45min house mix (celebrating 45yrs of Her Life) to bring you the joy that HOUSE MUSIC brought my Sister!!

Chicago Freestyle Classics With Philip De La Mora

I've always loved to remix the old tracks that I remember listening to in my younger days.
