This is a deeply personal mix of tunes I've been sitting on for some time trying to find a way and a reason to put them all together in a cohesive flow that makes sense and tells a story.

The Sound In U

On May 27th we lost one of the true modern day pioneers of house music, Producer and DJ Rescue (Brian Hein). We’re remembering Rescue this week by revisiting his 2017 mix for the RIPEcast. Rest in Peace, Brian. 

Also, Space Cowboy’s Brad Robinson will be honoring Rescue’s music and legacy through a radio show on Friday night, featuring a collection of Rescue’s tracks that influenced Brad’s sets over the years. You can catch that tribute show on www.futurebeatsradio.com this Friday June 10th at 1pm PST

This live dj set is believed to be the oldest known recording of Chris Gallagher at Simons, dating all the way back to March 29, 1991, a mere 4 months after the dark underground spot in sleepy Gainesville, Florida first opened. The music here is very representative of the underground sound of 1991, the year when raves and raving became part of the everyday vernacular of clubbers the world over. It's basically early techno, infused with breakbeats and hip-house elements; peak hour and pitched up, for maximum energy. 

"This mix embodies what I was all about when I first started to learn the art of DJing. These tracks, and the entire mix as a whole, is essentially the vibe and energy that I tried to create and project every time that I performed."

Coastal Breaks : Mixed by Adam Freeland : (Disc 1) released 1996

Considered one of the pioneers of the Nu Skool Breaks sound and an innovative person in trying out new sounds Adam Freeland was pretty much there at the beginning of the Nu Skool Breaks genre. This mix from 1999 was a kick start of the scene as we know it today for Breaks. Adam had a regular slot on UK's KISS FM with his ground breaking breakbeat show mixing (all in vinyl) a collection of artists that paved the way for a very loved genre at that time.

Adam Freeland - Kiss 100FM Breakbeat Show 1999

REMASTER from an old analog mixtape for the '2AM Side' of my second mix tape DESERT FUNK, best copy we could find!  Back when the Chemical Brothers were still the Dust Brothers, this one helped me finally land some local LA gigs after getting some initial interest as a resident Moontribe DJ.  All vinyl, and a little rough around the edges mix-wise as I was really just starting to DJ, this felt like when I was finally finding 'my sound' and things were starting to flow for me.  I think it also captures a bit of what was really a very special time in EDM and early LA underground dance culture which I feel so lucky to have been a part of.  Thanks again to Scott Cattanach for the fresh, original cover art, Ken Lawrence of Pure Acid Mixtapes for helping me spread the word, Moontribe for giving me a chance, LA DJ godfathers like Doc Martin, Steve Loria, and DJ Dan for their help and guidance, all the fans and promoters for their support, and of course the fabulous, rockin' artists who provide the music for this sonic journey.
