I was visiting a friend in Swedish this week, and Greg was cruising the highways in California. So our good friend Discoholic Ken took control of the decks for a fabulously funky live broadcast. 

The guest for the second hour was Sideways Shane, a talented DJ from Down Under whose music caught my ears when he was a guest DJ on Wilson Frisk's excellent Housebound Show. Shane releases regular mixes on his soundcloud page and I highly recommend giving him a follow.

Sideways Shane is a Perth-based DJ whose love of music has been a lifelong passion. Growing up in a household where music was playing from dawn til dusk, whether it was Rock’n’Roll, Northern Soul, Disco, Motown and everything in between, heI was exposed to it and loved every bit of it. His big love in the 90’s was R’n’B - Hip Hop with house music being a natural progression. Been lucky to have played gigs @ Perths longest running club Geisha, RTRFM Looney Choons Show, Seabreeze Promotions, Little Stiller, Boat Parties, Pirates Of Perth & more. Still loving all those genres and mixing them has never grown old and the passion keeps growing so if you love music as much as he does, jump on board and enjoy.

A super-confident four x four beat sets the tone, but we’re all here for the perfectly set vocals that soak you right through.  

The slow and dreamy chugger that is ‘Back To You’ occupies the ambient lit space between  velvet-walled late night lounge and daytime disco. Once again, DJ Laurel showcases his immaculate taste and deft skill in riffing on classics. Can you wear your loafers on the dance floor? Absolutely.  

The tempo shits upwards for ‘Love On A Summer Night’.  There’s a cheeky George Benson vibe in the air with this sublime rework of a 1982 R&B classic. A track that celebrates the good times and those sliding door moments, it sweeps you up on a warm summer breeze and leaves you lying on your back under a star-filled sky. Let the lyrics drip over your ears like honey and embrace their gentle touch. 

DJ Laurel knows how to hit those sweet spots, and with the ‘Love Games’ EP you will find it exceptionally difficult to pick out a favourite. A timeless and gorgeous collection of tunes which closes out the summer months perfectly.
