What is originality in music anymore? It's something I've struggled with as a producer and DJ for much of the past 10 years. As a producer I've pretty much given up on sounding original, but as a DJ I've always tried to find music that sounds original or at least attempts to do so. When it comes to dance floor music I've found it nearly impossible to find music that truly has an original sound to it, but I've been finding all sorts of abstract and eclectic Electronica and random tracks here and there that to me really feel like they're doing something different or going Against The Grain if you will....

When two of the worlds best electronica/downtempo producers and DJs, Bluetech and Dj Maggie respectively asked me to create a set for their streaming show Holotropic Happy Hour I knew this was the perfect opportunity to finally put together a set of these tracks! I hope you enjoy the journey!

Live set from Lotus Full Moon Campout 2012, hosted by Tropical and Terrakroma. I played the only downtempo set of the entire party, midday in the middle of the party while a yoga class was conducted nearby. The yoga instructor, Sean Johnstone, and I conferred on the energy and aesthetic of the playlist. Mellow beats and a hint of world groove.

*This set was given a proper name in March 2014. It used to be referred to as simply "Live From Lotus 2012".

Start From Scratch

One of my favorite anniversary sets for Moontribe was for the 16-year anniversary, in 2009. It was the closing set, winding the gathering down after three solid days of amazing music and celebration, and it was the first time I ever got asked to play an encore...and then the entire dancefloor came together, me included, into a circle of holding hands, smiling faces, and love, so much love. A truly memorable moment that feeds my soul.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the lossless WAV version of this mix so I've posted the 320 mp3 I still have. If you can download it, I would recommend doing so, as streaming it from SoundCloud will result in it being transcoded twice.

Here is my set from EuDream's 2022 summer campout called EuJuice. My friends and I produced that event, very much immersed in nature in the woods and stars. 

It's got some unreleased tracks (including track one which I'm about to find a label for), half drum and bass and the rest is multi genre stuff.

Frequilux

Moontribe Full Moon Gathering, May 2012. Aka Super Moon, as the moon apppeared 14% larger in the sky. It also happened to be my birthday. I couldn't imagine a better way to spend it.

I closed out the gathering with this long (2.5 hr) set. I had a grip of new & different material to work with, so it's a bit edgier in places than my typical sets, but it's one of my favorite DJ experiences ever.

Birthday Moon

Summertime pool parties - one of my favorite settings for playing music. This set was recorded at the tail end of one such party in 2018. The music had been more energetic all day and I started playing as the sun was setting, while the host started up the fire pit and the last of the revelers gathered around, not quite ready to head home yet. Gentle beats with a little more emotion.

Cleared For Landing

DJ Maggie carefully curates the best of downtempo electronic into lush, playful and deeply replenishing sets that invite listeners on shimmering audio odysseys. Evolving her own brand of intuitive sound at the legendary Southern California desert gatherings of the groundbreaking Moontribe Collective and other conscious parties and festivals, Maggie soon established a reputation for her heart-expanding sonic rides. This eventually propelled her into the path of her current collaborations with esteemed downtempo artist and producer, Bluetech (Evan Bartholomew) and their labels Behind the Sky and  Over the Moon.
