Two accomplished Montréal A/V artists pool together their interdisciplinary practices for a live performance that taps into textures and temporality. Developed specifically for MUTEK, Mini & Nelly-Eve Rajotte explore man’s ephemeral, ever complex relationship with nature, dissolving layered landscapes and ultra-slo-mo waterfalls and snowstorms into purely conceptual matter.

Evelyne Drouin has been an emblematic fixture on the city’s electro circuit (namely, at Parking Nightclub’s mythical, now-defunct Overdose Thursdays) for the past two decades as DJ Mini. Equally skilled at sampling, mixing and circuit bending, this protean producer has released two records, developed immersive shows and shared her rhythmic recipe with patrons around the world. The sound design for this collaboration marks a clear break from her DJ Mini signature – organic chords processed through effects pedals, overlaid onto broken rhythms. Nelly-Ève Rajotte’s moving images are an extension of her research on duplication, and are often superimposed, with one shot bleeding into the next. Rajotte transforms visuals, stripping them down to their most elemental form, before altering them through the modulation of light effects, or compressing them into horizontal stripes. 

For this collaboration with Drouin, Rajotte will tinker with images of environmental phenomena using scatter plots, transforming her visual projections in real time by way of a cyclical approach, evoking nature’s intangible forces.

After twenty years at the center of the electronic scene, the enigma that is Chloé still stands. While Chloé has long transcended her image as the “DJette” behind legendary club night Pulp, headlining the Rex as well as clubs and festivals throughout Europe, Endless Revisions represents yet another deviation from rigid genre classification, deepening the often-linear perspectives on current music. A rich and multi-faceted work, the artist’s captivating third album drifts from one mystery to the other, harkening back to philosopher Theodor W. Adorno’s maxim: “the task of art today is to bring chaos into order.”
Seven long years in the making, the follow-up to One in Other is only the third full-length by the artist, whose high standards translate into scarcity: “I did wait a while to make this album,” she confirms, “because I prefer not to impose deadlines on the full-lengths. To do so would stifle my creativity. Over the past few years, people have come up to me with interesting collaborations. I composed the score for Lidia Terki’s feature Paris La Blanche, worked with the Ircam for a live interactive installation, reinterpreted Steve Reich with percussionist Vassilena Serafimova... These opportunities forced me to leave my studio and encounter other people’s universes, which allowed me to grow. So today, I feel like I have new things to express.”
The time felt right for the producer to come up with a new opus: “the label was born out of a desire for emancipation, for self-assertion. Lumière Noire was the push to finish this new full length.” This third LP serves up Chloé’s music in its finest form – music that eschews the well-trodden paths of delight and seduction in favour of an experimental sensibility that puts motion before emotion. The title, Endless Revisions, refers to the constant work that goes into the gestation of the artist’s inner landscapes before they can be displayed for the audience. This sensory experience also serves as a mirror that she hangs for herself, each resulting track providing another step toward emotional equilibrium.
The idea with this new label, this new album, is to look towards the future.  This album represents who I am now, as I’m opening up to new horizons.”

Sunny Sunday Roadtrip

An experimental piece blending traditional Hindu devotional music using the flat sound usually heard on radio stations in India and cassettes, with contemporary Western rock.

Traditional instruments such as the harmonium and sitar (which is actually a banjo that was edited and mixed to sound like a sitar as much as possible) are used in combination with the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drum set, as well as violin and harp.

Evelyne Drouin is the un-categorizable artist, who's style and approach to sound have earned her an international reputation under the brand of DJ Mini. With an extensive knowledge of music crafting and media arts, and having dabbled in circuit bending and advanced audio technology, Evelyne sculpts textural sonic environments, soundscapes and hybrids, installations that actively respond to the participant.

Although she specializes in sound design, the artist's unconventional approach to art has earned her a reputation as an innovator and contemporary influencer in all spheres of the audio and visual arts.   

Evelyne's body of work spans beyond the world of music to art direction, development, multi-media work, fashion shows and choreography. Her numerous accomplishments include: Releasing two full length albums including Audio Hygiene in 2006 and Espace Temps in 2012, in addition to numerous remixes, dj mixes, dj performances and live musical performances during which she collaborated with a team of 30 creatives, technicians, and counsellors, including Margie Gillis and Jorane. Overdose, a weekly night at Parking nightclub which, over its 7 year run, hosted a plethora of internationally renowned artists including Richie Hawtin, Boys Noize, Zombie Nation, Ellen Allien, amongst many others. Espace Temps, A multi media installation, performance and workshop presented in partnership with the [SAT] wherein participants were able to engage with the creators in the space of the SATosphere. The project incorporated choreography, dance, live music and interactive scenography with 230 degrees visuals and music spatialized in 57.4 surround sound. This was the first production of it's size to be developed for the space of the SAT.
