The Munich-based electronic music label "Disko Bombs" was founded in 1991 by Peter Wacha aka Upstart as a "dance-department" of his independent label Sub-Up-Records.

After the fifth release the label was renamed to "Disko B".
Disko B was distributed via EFA.

Patrick Joseph Cowley (October 19, 1950 - November 12, 1982) was a San Francisco-based musician and record producer credited as an early pioneer of electronic dance music, most notably in HI-NRG and experimental genres. 

Cowley grew up in upstate New York where he worked in local rock bands and eventually studied English at the University of Buffalo. After moving to the Bay Area he began an intense study of the synthesizer at San Francisco City College. 

Cowley's recording career began when he was asked to join San Francisco-based artist, Sylvester, in the studio after Sylvester heard what Cowley was doing with the synthesizer and was excited by his innovative techniques. The result was the album "Step II" which skyrocketed Sylvester to international notoriety. The album landed Cowley a job as a back-up musician on Sylvester's subsequent world-wide tour. 

Cowley remained close to the San Francisco club scene and eventually joined forces with producer Marty Blecman to form Megatone Records in the summer of 1981. Under auspices of their partnership Cowley created a successful dance-oriented 12" single that opened the doors for his award-winning "Megatron Man" LP. 

While writing the music for his latest album, he also wrote and produced the successful dance single "Right on Target" for San Francisco artist Paul Parker which reached #1 on Billboard's Disco Charts. He reunited with Sylvester during the same period and produced the chart-busting "Do You Wanna Funk", also on the Megatone label. 

Patrick Cowley died of complications due to AIDS in 1982.

I was a big fan of ‘Stop Making Sense’, the Talking Heads concert from 1984, which was released as both a film and an album. It starts with David Byrne on an empty stage with just a ghetto blaster and acoustic guitar, performing one of the band’s best-known tracks, ‘Psycho Killer, which was originally released in 1977. The beats, courtesy of a Roland TR-808 drum machine, re-appear in extended form over the closing credits. The idea of an edit was there from the moment I bought ‘Stop Making Sense’ on VHS back in the 80’s, but the sound quality from the video wouldn’t have been up to scratch. However, when it was released on DVD later down the line, this was no longer a problem, and I was able to let the beats run on their own for a couple of minutes before the guitar enters and the track really kicks in.

The edit took off in a big way for me, and later with DJ’s including Andrew Weatherall and Optimo. It subsequently became a major festival tune for me and featured in my Essential Mix in 2009 (http://soundcloud.com/gregwilson/essential-mix-greg-wilson-mix-for-bbc-radio-1). More recently it appeared on my Festival Anthems mix (http://soundcloud.com/gregwilson/greg-wilson-festival-anthems), and given this, I thought it was a good time to share here.

Hurra, Ray Okpara ist wieder da! Ist ja zum Glück auch keine Weltreise von Mannheim nach München, wobei der gebürtige Nigerianer im Frühjahr schon ziemlich viel durch die Weltgeschichte gereist ist – oder zumindest durch Europa von Spanien bis Rumänien. Im März hat er außerdem auf seinem eigenen Label AMA Records die insgesamt schon fünfte Best-of-Compilation ins Rennen geschickt. Einige Tracks davon dürften auch im Palais voll ins Ziel treffen, wir freuen uns drauf.

Selbiges gilt auch für die Sets unseres Discotribe-Duos Sandra Gold und Ricardo Pielok. Die beiden haben schon so manches Mal gemeinsame Sache gemacht und die Menge mit feurigen Mixturen zu tänzerischen Höchstleistungen getrieben – zuletzt erst im April an der Seite von Lützenkirchen. Der ist diesmal nicht im Starterfeld, dafür aber als Vierter im Bunde DJ Chew Solo vom Münchner Label Basspatrol Records.
