Celebrated for producing the weirdest minimal concoctions around, Carina Lohmeyer, the female sound engineer hiding behind the aesthetic moniker Souki, celebrated her initial breakthrough in 2009 when her first releases got picked up by no other than Marco Carola. Since then, Souki, hailing from the South of Germany and relocated to Berlin, has moved countless partygoers with her fearless one-channel mixing approach which she swears by as it results in maximum club pressure. Truly enough, her exclusive live set oozes sweaty outbreaks of muscle flexing combined with airy female vocals recorded live with flatmates and befriended artists. A special one indeed.

Since then, we've kept a keen eye on his movements and his unique form of 80's inspired, cinematic and analogue heavy aesthetic has earned him further releases on the excellent World Unknown imprint and Mike Simonetti's New Jersey. Look out for an as yet untitled release on London's LN-CC. We are pleased to welcome him into the Clandestino fold.

On August 9, 2011 the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) aired an interview with West Indian writer, broadcaster, and civil liberties campaigner Darcus Howe concerning the London riots. The “on the street” interview positioned Howe in the foreground with a burnt out building and fire truck in the background. Howe, when attempting to give context to the riots specifically about the treatment of West Indian youth, was continually interrupted and the BBC interviewer who, through her questioning, not only mispronounced his name but also represented Howe as being an active agent in the violence associated with the riots.

Anyone who's seen http://soundcloud.com/tillvonsein DJ will attest to what an excellent selector the Berlin talent is. His productions see him jump from his house music core to hip-hop and R&B-influenced downtempo jams and all inbetween, and have helped him to build up a formidable discography. Part of the SUOL family run by Chopstick & Johnjon that flies the flag for German house music, he's also graced the likes of Pets Recordings, Dirt Crew and Supplement Facts and continues to push a resolute quality-not-quantity ethos. Touching on his myriad soul, disco and funk influences across this retrospective mix that spans five years of productions, he brings his musical world to life in vivid colours.

*How would you describe your sound?*

Well, that's always a tough one. I would always call it house music. Sometimes deep, sometimes funky, sometimes soulful and sometimes tech or even progressive but in the end it´s always house...
but besides that there is always some R&B, some dub, dope beats and some electronica-inspired productions. I guess I'm not that typical stick-to-one-genre kinda artist.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

Travels, friends, music.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

I never tried playing live or putting a mix of only my own tracks together so this is a new experience for me. It's kinda hard to just find the perfect balance within 60 minutes sometimes, and it's even harder when it has to be only your own material and it's the first time you ever try it.

Nach dem mein letztes Set ja schon ein wenig zurück liegt und für mich aktuell ein paar Gigs anstehen, dachte ich mir es ist an der Zeit mal wieder was von mir hören zu lassen.

Mit diesem Warm Up-Set starte ich auch heute Abend (6.3.13) im Cocktailhouse, wer aus räumlichen oder anderen Gründen dazu keine Zeit hat kann sich so zuhause ein wenig aufwärmen...

Warm Up-Set nenne ich es mal, da ich bei gediegenen 96 BPM anfange, mich dann aber stetig steigere und bei 121 einpendele

Habt Spaß am Musiksport und vergesst nicht es weiter zu sagen ;)

Field Work is journeying deep into the fog with a special double feature on Friday 5th April. LAND OF LIGHT (Live) and BLACK MERLIN will be playing mesmeric and psychedelic music for body and soul.

LAND OF LIGHT (London-based duo Kyle Martin & Jonny Nash) put out one of our favourite records of last year on ESP Institute (Cos/Mes etc) and will be playing a rare live dance floor set with a whole load of analogue and digital hardware. This is going to be a truly beautiful trip, dream-logic dance music that's as natural as breathing. Ambient in the truest sense; Land of Light can transform a room and set a mood like few others. We're so excited to see them play. 

BLACK MERLIN (aka George Thompson) is the soundtrack to late night cable TV watching where Videodrome is the only signal. His first 12” 'Brunswick Drive’ (on Andrew Weatherall's Bird Scarer) was a statement of intent; a mid-paced, atmospheric groove that builds and destroys. Field Work will be treated to an extended DJ set summoned from the dark corners of body music, including a whole arsenal of dubplates from the BM vaults themselves. Wild sounds for wild scenes- just check out this exclusive mix. Look out for forthcoming releases on Mike Simonetti’s New Jersey label and World Unknown.

As always, we'll be in the backroom of the Grosvenor (17 Sidney Road, Stockwell tube). No messing around - just smoke, lazers, and a room full of people going crazy to good music. Oh and cheap drinks too. See you there x
