DJ Rocca is a producer and musician. He started to produce in late 90s working on some drum&bass and breakbeat singles as Maffia Soundsystem from the same name club in Italy, where he was the main resident DJ. In his career DJ Rocca collaborated with Howie B, Pressure Drop, Zed Bias, Dimitri From Paris, Daniele Baldelli and Jazzanova producing singles, remixes and albums on some of the best european labels as Sonar Kollektiv, Compost, Classic, Rekids, Skint, Hell Yeah, Rebirth, Internasjonal, Futureboogie Recordings, !K7, Deep Freeze, Tirk, International Feel, Defected, Skint, Gomma, Rotters Golf Club, Paper Recordings.
DJ Rocca works with Dimitri From Paris and Daniele Baldelli. With legendary Dimitri From Paris he has given voice to various projects: a new electro-disco act entitled Erodiscotique, with an album on japanese BBQ label, four huge EP’s on Gomma and Hell Yeah records, various remixes and some tracks included in two compilations respectively entitled Knights Of The Playboy Mansion mixed by Dimitri himself and Bob Sinclar, and Back In The House mixed by Dimitri, both compilations are released by Defected records. With Daniele Baldelli has released two albums, “Podalirius” in 2012 and “Quagga” in 2017, in addition to some 12″ on Is It Balearic? and Nein Records.
With the award-winning jazz musician Franco D’Andrea he has formed the Electric Tree Project, a contemporary music trio, hovering between jazz and electronics, with a double album released in April 2016 on Parco Della Musica Records, defined as record of the month for the magazine Musica Jazz (June 2016). The collaboration with such a great name of the jazz scene, moves on with the realisation of an octet and the production of a new album entitled “Intervals I”, recorded live at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome last March 2017.
As a producer, DJ Rocca is also part of Ajello (with Taver), Supersonic Lovers (with Marcello Giordani) and Crimea X (with Jukka Reverberi) He remixed big names as Oliver Koletzki, Luke Solomon, Blaze, Isolee, Pete Herbert, Bjorn Torske, Chris Coco, Dimitri From Paris, Andrew Weatherall, Justin Robertson, Soul Clap.
DJ Rocca also runs his own label: Danny Was A Drag King and releases music from the likes of Ajello, Supersonic Lovers, Luminodisco, Verdo, Marcello Giordani and Hard Ton.
During 2010, with the project DJ Rocca and 5th Suite, he reached the top position in the Brazilian charts with the huge track “Party Bobba”.
His DJ set are pure eclectism filling club dance floors & festival tents around the world from UK, Norway, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Austria, France, Switzerland, Finland, Czech Republic, Turkey, China, USA, Japan and Brazil as well.

Next up, benvenuti DJ, producer & musician Luca "DJ Rocca" Roccatagliati. His first productions date back to the late 90s, under the name Maffia Soundsystem from the Italian club of the same name, but he has quite the roll call since those days. He's collaborated with names such as Howie B, Zed Bias, Dimitri From Paris @dfp, Daniele Baldelli, Francois K @francoiskofficial and @Jazzanova producing singles, remixes and albums for some much-loved labels, such as Compost, Rekids, Hell Yeah, Slow Motion, IRMA, @ToyTonics, Defected, Soul Clap Rec, Faze Action Records @fazeaction, Delusion Of Grandeur, @claremont-56 & Bordello A Parigi. 

DJ Rocca created the electro disco project Erodiscotique with Dimitri From Paris and Daniele Baldelli, with several EPs on Gomma, Toy Tonics, Razor'N'Tape and Hell Yeah records, an album on Japanese BBQ and some tracks included in the compilations Playboy Mansion and Back In The House published by Defected records and mixed by Dimitri himself and Bob Sinclair.

He's remixed artists such as Isolee, Pete Herbert, Bjorn Torske, Chris Coco, Dimitri From Paris & Andrew Weatherall. With the award-winning Italian jazz musician Franco D’Andrea he formed the Electric Tree project, a trio of contemporary music, balanced between jazz and electronic, with a double album released in April 2016 for Parco Della Musica Records, album of the month for the magazine Musica Jazz. 

With the iconic IRMA label he has two albums under his belt: as Triorox (together with pianist Giovanni Guidi, Joe Rehmer and Gianluca Petrella), and one with the CocoRocca project together with the English DJ/producer Chris Coco. Released in March 2025, 'Cocorocca: Discoteca' was born from late summer of 2019, when DJ Rocca and Chris Coco spent time together at the intimate La Casella festival in Umbria, Italy, where they chatted about Italo disco, the Rimini/Riccione riviera in the 90s and classic Italian clubs. Inspired by their conversations and imagined memories of scenes they weren't part of, they set out to make the music which over time, evolved into this, an imaginary retro-futuristic club blending past influences with future possibilities. It draws on dub, house and disco and is now resented on this wonderfully escapist full length which starts slow and dreamy, raises the pulse then slows down to a nice emotive finish. A fine reimagining of some classic sounds.

DJ Rocca also has his own label Danny Was A Drag King where he releases releases by Ajello, Supersonic Lovers, Luminodisco, Verdo & Marcello Giordani. His sets are pure eclecticism for the dance floor, having globetrotted from London to Oslo, Brussels to Berlin, Vienna to Barcelona, Zurich, Bern & Helsinki to Monaco, Paris & Lyon; Croatia, Turkey & Japan to China, USA and Brazil.

RA.1000 launches with Theo Parrish, live at fabric: a vanishingly rare club mix from the king of deep crates and impossible transitions.

There are DJ sets and then there are Theo sets. No matter how many times you've caught him in action, every time still feels like the first. Running hot, levels smoking, isolator working over time. You think you know dance music? Think again.

Parrish's debut on the RA Podcast is a milestone for the series, one we've sought for over 15 years. So it was only right that Theo led off our 1000th celebrations. Recorded live at fabric last December as part of RA's party with the London club for their 25th anniversary, this three-hour segment documents the crescendo of his eight-hour marathon. 

The Detroit legend doesn't release mixes often, and when he does, they're usually studio recordings: think NTS shows, his 100% Detroit edition of DJ-Kicks or classic tapes Body (1997) and Methods of Movement (2000). A capture of the Sound Signature boss on the dancefloor is hard to come by.

Sure, there's galvanising build-ups and crowd-pleasers, but laced throughout a Parrish beatdown are rarities designed to shock the system. In a business dominated by marketing, the vinyl master towers above thanks to a relentless hunger for lustrous melodies, moods and textures of all stripes, which he and he alone can fold into an inspiring and exhilarating joyride.

On RA.1000, blissful reggae precedes new wave disco; '80s R&B morphs into synthy techno; bleepy Chicago jack makes way for a poignant vocal ballad. It's Theo through and through. Once again, he proves that anything and everything is possible with the right records.

Andrew Weatherall's first official posthumous mix. The only b2b DJ Harvey ever agreed to. Six hours at Trouw. This one's special.

When mulling which direction to go in for RA's 1000th mix celebrations, many options came to mind. Some shadowy character 2-stepping around the fringe of our collective consciousness? An impossible-level IDM icon?

All tempting. But, ultimately, we are a DJ-forward publication and this is a DJ mix series. It felt truer to the history of the RA Podcast to release deep vault material from a time when the world of niche records felt different, tighter, more discrete.

The fourth-longest mix in the series' history is an unrepeatable marathon set recorded in 2012 at a superclub that no longer exists. 2012, incidentally, is farther away from 2025 than 2012 was from 2000... if we have to clock it, so do you.

It's the coming together of one British icon who passed away in 2020, and another whose time on the road has scaled back considerably as of late. DJ Harvey agreed to exactly one b2b set in his life: this one, with Andrew Weatherall.

The night took place at Trouw, an Amsterdam club already considered legendary before it shuttered its doors in the opening hours of 2015, as part of an RA series anchored around start-to-close combinations. Harvey was at the peak of an irresistible career second act, which dovetailed with a disco revival that dominated clubs for years. Weatherall, with infinite brownie points stockpiled from the '90s, remained everyone's favourite debonair psychonaut. 

What follows is 385 scintillating minutes of arpeggiated chug and slow-cresting climaxes: a moment when the resting heart rate of dance floors plunged lower than any comparable point in the 21st century. A masterclass, entirely self-contained in audio form.

If you've got time to spare, a fun side game is sussing out who plays what. A disco-dub cover of Echo & the Bunnymen? Smart money's on Weatherall. Exuberant EQ'ing of The Isley Brothers? Gotta be Harvey. As for the low 'n slow, lightly spangled house that was all the rage in the early 2010s (think Maxxi Soundsystem, Disco Bloodbath, Rub & Tug, C.O.M.B.I. and Full Pupp), it's anyone's guess. 127 BPM feels practically like an F1 car.

When we kicked off our RA.1000 campaign, we outlined a few goals: tick off a handful of long-awaited dream guests, honour architects who shaped the world around us and deliver recordings you truly can't hear anywhere else. Full send.

DJing and the mythmaking around it has undergone a quantum leap since 2012, let alone 2006, 1996 or 1989. For those of us who were kicking around in the former, there's a creeping melancholy that our prime is fast becoming a matter of historical record. The killing moon really did come too soon. 

Where will electronic music, DJ sets or any of this be in 2044? Hard to say. Best not to overthink that one. Instead, we want to say thanks to all contributors on the series so far.
