Has Your Man Got ❤️ Soul?

Someone said to me yesterday, that my mix sounded very Glitterbox.  And I don't mind that one bit.

However, Kinky Malinki was in the clubs 15 years before Glitterbox even existed, so in a roundabout way, I'm not trying to emulate anyone else, but my old DJ self. 

We held the longest residency of any night at Pacha London, even much longer than Hed Kandi, and we had some of the biggest crowds in Pacha London without having to have a huge DJ line up.  

Back in those days, we could pretty much only afford to have one guest DJ, and all the other DJ's were our brilliant resident DJ's.  And they were brilliant.

But, our music wasn't just disco house.  It was everything that good house music embodies.  It was funky, vocal, chunky, even the odd progessive house track.  We had one rule, and that was that the music made you feel good, smile, and throw shapes.  

Our crowd kept us going through those tougher earlier years.  The fact people would come up and thank us for giving them the best night out ever was inspiring and gave us the confidence to keep pushing on. Looking out the window at the Glasshouse and not relaxing until we could see 1300 people queing was4 standard behaviour.

Being asked to host a room at the Ministry just  6 months after starting at Imperial Gardens, then onto The Cross, the Glasshouse, the Aquarium, then Pacha and Turnmills, then Matter at the O2 with almost 4000 kinky clubbers.  

We also guested all around the UK, had a season at El Divino in Ibzia, had parties in Australia, Miami, Croatia and Marbella. Next year we're taking over O Beach, Cafe Del Mar, along with hotel and boat parties 💃🏻🕺.

We had brilliant guest DJ's such as Joey Negro, CJ Mackintosh, we were the first London promtion to fly Knee Deep over from Germany, Grant Nelson (several times as he was incredible), Frank Roger, Bobby & Steve, Dean Marriot (The Lisa Marie Experience) and so many more.

We took 56 seater coaches all around the country, to Nottingham, Leicester, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Ipswich, Romford (to Culture Shock).  At Hotdog in Leicester.

Kinky was an incredible time for me.  I loved every second of it.  I met some amazing people through it, and many are still friends.  

That is the inherent beauty about music and, more specifically, house music.  I met a best pal in Labrynth when I was 18 years old.

I am extremely proud of Paul for what he has achieved and I'm super pleased to be back again, the same passionate music head I always was.  

This is a little tougher.  It's definitely not Glitterbox, but it still has a funky undercurrent.  It's tougher but it's still very much Kinky Uplifting House Music.  House music was always our thing.

BayAreaBeatbox was founded in 2011 by Sean Dexter on Pure Radio Holland and is currently on Underground Kollektive Radio as a 3 hour show that has featured guests from around the world like Paul Johnson, James Curd, DJ Vivona, David Duriez, Jay Tripwire and many others.  In 2020 BayAreaBeatbox Live was launched on Mixcloud doing live broadcasts and in 2021 BayAreaBeatbox live started a monthly  residency on the legendary underground station  Fantasy FM in the UK on the Last Sunday of the month from 6-9 pm PDT.  Beatbox Records was Launched in  2016 featuring productions from Sean Dexter.  Sean has been a dj, producer, remixer, party promoter and radio host for over 30 years.  BayAreaBeatbox takes it's name from the legendary Roland 808 drum machine lovingly referred to as a beatbox
