A native of Brooklyn and current resident of Queens (New York), Jovonn has been active in the music scene since the age of 10. Supported by his mother, a keyboard player, and father, a guitar/bass player, who were aspiring R&B singers, he was nurtured with a solid musical foundation.
Jovonn began his career as a hip-hop DJ at the age of 14 and started spinning records at those infamous New York block parties of the 80’s where he was introduced to the growing New York House music scene, hanging out in seminal Brooklyn clubs such as Sapphires, Club Saturn, Club Serene and years later in clubs such as The Loft, The Choice, Snobbusters and Zanzibar.

With labels such as NuGroove, Nervous, Freeze, Strictly Rhythm, Henry Street Music taking all the spot light, there is Jovonn working on a small but sensational catalogue of music that somehow gets overshadowed by the popular releases on the mentioned labels. The honest productions, jazzy melodies and playful vocals (rooted in gospel) were taking things into a more musical, more spiritual way, lacking gimmicks or dispensable samples. For the real diggers, the true lovers of house music Jovonn always was a name to watch, a producer of some of their favorite NY house tracks, tracks that have a raw edge combined with a sincere human touch and pure underground house vibes.

It was in 1991 when Jovonn exploded onto the house scene with his second release, “Turn and Runaway” on Warner Bros. Records, (which reached number 10 on the Billboard chart and catapulted Jovonn on to the global scene).
Then Jovonn set up his first record label, Goldtone Records, via Emotive Records and since then has produced more than 500 records in the house, R&B, hip-hop and neo soul genres, not to mention film scores and soundtracks although his true love has always been House music. 
Now after more than 25 years since his first release the man's small discography on his own Goldtone label and Emotive records stand out with his unique musical personality.

After the Goldtone experience, Jovonn started his new musical adventure with NextMoov Records and NextMoov Traxx, dedicated to releasing the hottest deep and raw underground house tracks from Jovonn and his crew of producers, such as Rex resident DJ Deep, who was a huge fan oh him and also collaborated on couple later productions with Jovonn.

A pioneer of the NYC, New Jersey, 90’s house sound, he’s produced tracks such as "Old Man Groan", "Jurassic House", "Circle Dance", "He’s More" (ft. Carolyn Harding), "Djoon" (on UK Basic), "Praise" (on West End Records), "Dont Waste Your Time" (ft. Stephanie Cook), "The Spirit" album (on Track Mode), the "Blaque House" album on Code Red as well as many famous underground classics such as "Back In the Dark", "Garage Shelter", "I Can't Make Up My Mind", "I Wanna Go To A Club", that all contain Jovonn's distinctive vocal delivery and trademark production with his gritty sounds, hard kicks, jazzy chords and phat basslines.

Slowly he started getting recognition from Europe which resulted in a handfull of records on European labels such as Distance, Coco Soul and Estereo.

After releases on other labels such as Apollonia, Dennis Ferrer’s Objektivity, Dogmatik, Deeply Rooted House and Defected Records, in 2016 Jovonn launched his new label venture Body ‘N Deep via clone distribution, where, at the end of 2018, released the album "Timeless", his first since "Blaque House" released on Code Red back in 2009. The album focusses on the deeper side of house and Jovonn's trademark New Jersey house sound, with contributions by Patrick Mangan (violin) on “Hesperia Soul” and Cassioware on “Turnin Me Out”.
