It is a variation of ‘Minor Swing’ in the intro. One of my fave guitarists. So I kept the rhythm of the lead but changed the notes after the first few notes. In an accurate homage, I played it with 2 fingers.. Also changed the rhythm of the rhythm guitar a bit. I played a minor bebop scale in there. Did some superimposition with the lead on the 3rd and 5th degrees. Then the opening synth melody is taken from ‘Spitting off the edge of the world.’ I also noticed they change to bells midway through the verse so that’s what I did too. Borrowed chord at the end of the last phrase. Secondary dominant to transition to the chorus.Then for the 2nd verse an added real bass. Lastly there is counterpoint for the strings related to the vocals at the last chorus. Still needs more practice but that is something new I’ve tried. I think the electrofunk tune will be a lot better. But, all in all, out of all the mixed songs so far this year, if this is worst song in terms of melody/phrasing, then it’s a good year. It is the more creative one out of the 3 new ones.
I began the song on piano and improvised “I came I saw I conquered’ so I figured I might as well write about Caesar. Prefer Alexander or Genghis and also much prefer Caesar in Planet of the Apes. Apart from the first line of the verse, the rest of the lyrics are written. Chorus is improvised. I learnt that Veni Vidi Vici doesn’t mean I came… It means a swift victory.
