Next up in the series we have 90 minutes of house pumpers courtesy of Horsemen. Having featured many of their tracks in our radio shows it felt right to finally get them on board for a mix.

"I don't need a ticker tape parade" is an odd way to start a pretty straight ahead (well, for Interbay, at least) house track--but...again...Interbay.  

This is the result of a combination of two very different ideas, never meant to go together but they somehow managed to Reese's Peanut Butter Cup themselves into something else.  

The first idea I had was to do a mainstream dance track.  I've been doing a bunch of rock leaning stuff (some have been posted here, others yet to be completed or posted) and I do like the freedom of following wherever my muse points (my muse is the WORST GPS system...but perhaps getting lost is part of the process?)  

I wanted to keep things simple--minimal, perhaps--and avoid my tendency to fill in all of the available space with too much stuff.  

The other idea I had was to follow up "Chokehold" with some current events-centric social commentary.  I had the notion that something that I'd always assumed would always be true, would now be a complete surprise--a leader willing to sacrifice for the betterment of others.

It feels like, so quickly, we've fallen from our time-honored ideals and become significantly less than what we were...and I put that into words, both from the voice of the political hopeful who was trying to rally the nation to "restore" that former glory...as well as a Kanno-voiced rap section, where what needs to be said directly can be shared from a counterperspective...one that points out the problems, so the political hopeful can stay on the message of hope.  

I thought the two ideas could blend--but the vocals were too serious for the music.  (And it was too wordy for a mainstream house track.)  So, instead, I worked from the outside in...imagining myself as a hired gun remixer from the '90s--where I could use (or not use) any pieces and parts of the original track to make a danceable and listenable track.  

...and I did that...first.  Before I made the original track, I made this...where I only snagged a couple of pieces from what I'd planned.  Does it make sense?  Not in a linear sense.  But I think it vibes...  

It did not end up so minimal (is anyone surprised?)  I'd come up with lots of musical ideas for the original track, but I also wanted the let the groove run--and those two intentions are like pineapple on pizza (I suppose some people might like that, but...)  By doing this "alternate club mix", I could let the length stretch a bit to get some of those ideas a little bit of shine.  

If you take one thing from this track--it is my hope that we can embrace the idea of "empathy" as a culture again.  One of the lines that I did NOT use in THIS mix was "You want to pick who suffers and make sure that they do."  That doesn't feel "great", you know?  

Will the "original" mix ever be released?  It is on my list of things to do.  Spoiler alert (perhaps): After we hit the one full year of everyday brand new SoundCloud Exclusives mark, you may see some revisits of songs from the Facebook "Experiments" era, some (truly) alternate mixes of songs already posted--I'm also hoping to dredge up some truly ancient stuff from the before times.  (Or, possibly, re-do some of them.)  

So, maybe?  ;)
