The second mix of my 30 Years Of Skie +My Raving Years.

It was the end of May 1989,  I was living in  Chesterfield Derbyshire as my parents had moved there due to the house price boom in the south east. The rave scene was  virtually non existent locally so I travelled down to see someone in London, however, they cancelled last minute.  I called my brother Joe up who was a ticket agent for all of the big illegal raves and asked him what was happening that weekend- he told me there was an Energy Rave in a Film studio in Shepherds Bush West London, he offered me a ticket which was left left on the door at the event.  My friend Mia and myself turned up to a big closed gated area with crowds of people and security Guards, it was quite intimidating at first but we could not wait to find out what was on the other side,

When we finally got in it was the most amazing setting I had ever seen with a big temple erected  in the middle of the dance floor. There were bumper cars and arcades with ravers  everywhere and everyone was so friendly unlike local club nights with the usual drunk people getting dressed up and causing fights, it was different, this was very different, the clothes were colourful and baggy with floppy hats, baseball caps, African dress, psychedelic t shirts, flowery tops, it was like a secret  world within a world where everyone just danced together regardless of their ethnicity, class or religion. Football hooligans had become hippies :) The music was underground too, stuff you were unlikely to hear at mainstream clubs. It felt magical like a new step in to the future, a perfect fresh new musical Utopia.

It truly was like a secret Movement...

This is another more of a Proto Jungle mix with more emphasise on drums rather than hands in the air piano melodies etc.
There's a lot of Mike Slammer and DJ Red Alert tracks in this one, thought I'd put some of my favourites all in one place, they fit very well together. Also DJ Hype and The Phuture Assassins are plentiful :)

An Oldskool/rave/dance/jungle/breaks.. whatever you called it back then.. mix from the 91-94 era.

Includes classics you know and love, tunes you might have heard a few times on a mix tape/radio show and not known the artist/track name and think OMG!! I remember this!.


Some of the quality isn't the best on a few tracks as they're ripped from vinyl..

Never frequented Hacienda or Shoom nor visited Ibiza either; first DJ'd in 1979 alongside two of his classmates (Kenny McKay & Norris McLean), Miss Gibson's P7 class, Dalrymple Primary School, Stranraer.  Exhibiting an early rebellious streak, Stuart infamously dropped Tubeway Army's "Are 'Friends' Electric?" only to be told to play something more suitable.  When the song later went No. 1 in the UK singles chart, Stuart's teacher relented and granted him the greater freedom to play what he liked!
