Acid House is a subgenre of House Music that emerged around the 80s in Chicago. This genre is known for having its elements mixed with a heavy sound and deep bass from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. Its main representatives are DJs/producers DJ Pierre, Adonis, Farley Jackmaster Funk and Phuture.

The term "acid" comes from an effect produced by the Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer, which has filter effects that reproduce an "acid" sound. It is a genre that became very popular in Chicago in the USA, but fell in favor with European DJs and was widely spread there. The symbol of this genre is a smiley, which was and still is printed on several t-shirts and/or served as decorations.
