I wanted to create a mixed playlist of my favorite tracks from the two queens of Disco: Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor. There is a lot of rich history behind these tracks; I elaborate below, and highly encourage you to read them as you listen! Enjoy, my fellow music lovers!

About: 

The first three tracks by Gloria Gaynor I selected not only for their sonic quality, but also for their legacy. The album "Never Can Say Goodbye" was Gaynor's debut album and was released in 1975. It is considered to be the very first 'real' disco record.The title track, was also the very first single to be featured on the Hot Dance 100 chart, peaking at #1. The first three tracks of the album were mixed together so that Disco DJs already had a pre-mixed suite for the dance floor. It is the very first mixed dance record, and pre-mixing has been widely used throughout dance music since then. 

Tracks 4 through 8 were taken from Donna Summer's 1977 release, "Once Upon a Time." This album is especially legendary because Donna Summer and her team went from going into the studio having no idea what they were going to record, to having a fully completed 16 track album in 72 hours. No one on her team, including Summer herself, got any sleep over the 3 days and Summer was hospitalized for exhaustion after immediately finishing the final track, "Happily Ever After." Side B of the album, (not featured in my mix), is entirely electronically produced by Giorgio Moroder, and is considered to have initially popularized Electronic Dance music. This is my favorite album of all time, and I constantly praise the elegant mix of Summer's vocals, first-class songwriting, and progressive production. I strongly recommend any music lover to check out the full album and give it a track-to-track listen.

This song has been a very big New York Dance Classic. It was given a fresh run in 92 as borrowed by Ashley Beedle's Black Science Orchestra alias ("Where were you") And again in 94, Kenny Dope sampled it in the B-Side of the original Bucketheads 12" single ("I wanna know"). Yes the one that had "The Bomb" on the other side. Obviously the huge success of "The Bomb" eclipsed it, and it was withdrawn from subsequent pressings. This song was also remixed on a scarce bootleg release a few years back which was rumoured to be the work of Joe Claussell. My version is a classic re-edit of the very original Tom Moulton full length mix from 1977

"Secret garden" by Quincy Jones (which features the likes of El Debarge, Barry White, James Ingram and Al B. Sure on vocals) has been remixed many times since its release in 1989 on the "Back on the block" album, but this brand new version by Manny Ray stands out with its funk drenched, subtle yet captivating backing from the rest (CD-R).

Did this edit for the Motown classic a while back but never really shared it with anyone, discovered it again today and decided to share it with you guys! Nothing much, just a pretty housy edit for a classic that means so much to me. Tried to stay true to the original feel and rhythm of the track, didn't try to make into something it isn't.
