 In collaboration with notable Jamaican producers Bebo Phillips and the late Clive Jarret, Honest Music presents Kingston 16 Riddim LP. Originally recorded in the early '80s, this obscure treasure features Grammy winners    Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare on drums and bass and a never-before  released song "Mama Makusa" from Lone Ranger, one of the most lyrically inventive deejays of his era and a major influence on the early British dancehall scene.
     
      Fast forward to 2016, the lead single, “Real Reggae Reggae” features the golden voice of Scotty P, lead singer of Jah Works, one of top bands on the US east coast. Perfect Giddimani aka “Mr Perfect” lends his voice on the nostalgic ”Ms Rose Bwoy”. Ras Attitude, the soulful  Rastaman from St Croix, US Virgins Islands delivers the anthemic “Marijuana (We Ah Bun). Jamaican pioneer, Carl Malcolm aka “Mr Fatty Boom Boom” himself, joins a cast of veteran and upcoming artists: Christos DC, Tomawok, Lenny Kurlou, Shadrach, Desii Hyson (Moja Nya), Monsoon and Yusuf the Starlight Rocker. 

      “We here at Honest Music are proud and humbled to be apart of the revival of a tune from the classic era in dancehall reggae,” conveys singer, producer Christos DC.  “We must always remember the true origin: the roots,” Bebo Phillips explains. “They are the foundation of life and the wings of the future.”

Reggae veteran Johnny Osbourne is one of Jamaica’s best-loved singers with scores of hit tunes from nearly four decades for the likes of Winston “Bam Bam” Riley, Studio One, King Jammys,
Channel 1, Bobby Digital and countless others. His hits span
over 30 years and include “Truths and Rights”, “Folly Ranking”,
“Buddy Bye-Bye”, “Come Back Darling”, 
“Give a Little Love” and “Water Pumping”.

“Black Starliner” was first heard as a Sound System dubplate special, eventually released by Roots Garden to popular demand on 7inch single in 2005(RGR:001). Quickly selling out, the song gained massive air play on radio stations worldwide and became a much sought-after modern day roots classic on the European sound system circuit.

Manasseh totally reworks the original rhythm track for the remix
with more of a contemporary feel, yet with obvious references
to the early 1980’s Roots Radics era of ‘dancehall’ roots hits
mixed by Scientist. Johnny Osbourne’s baritone vocal takes a
fresh approach to the popular repatriation theme by
addressing the issue from a sharper angle:
”you wait for the Black Starliner, and you never want to
go a Africa, you never want to hear the words of Jah Jah,
you never read up the holy scripture, you never respect
one another, and yet your waiting for the Black Starliner?!”
