[Radio Show #646] Une émission spéciale Vivian Jones avec des morceaux sortis des bacs du One A Dem Sound System. A écouter le 2 novembre sur Radio Gâtine et le 7 novembre sur Radio Val d’Or : 

= Who's Gonna Get Caught est sorti en 1981 sur Virgo Stomach.

Vivian « Sugar Love » Jones est né en Jamaïque en 1957, dans la même contrée que Usan Bolt et Anthony B. A 11 ans, il quitte l’île pour Londres où il rejoint ses parents. Au milieu des 70’’, il commence à se produire en Soundsystems. Il est alors DJ. Il intègre ensuite The Spartans, The Mighty Vibes et The Doctor Birds. Avec le dernier, il enregistrera « Black, Green & Gold » sur le label Freedom Sounds.

En 1980, il démarre sa carrière solo avec « Good Morning », un hymne du reggae lover à l’anglaise. Un an plus tard, Vivian Jones est élu « Chanteur le plus talentueux » du moment dans le magazine UK spécialisé en afro music, Black Echoes.  A la toute fin des années 80 sort Jamaica Love XXX avec un titre qui a sûrement permis à l’artiste d’obtenir le blaze de Sugar Love.

« Bank Robbery » est son premier album solo, il sort en 1983 sur le label Ruff Cutt Music. A l’intérieur, on retrouve un classique de la discographie de Vivian Jones, Flash It and Gwan.

Vient le temps de la collaboration avec Jah Shaka. Ensemble, ils sortent l’album Jah Works, et bien sûr le très grand classique Red Eyes.

Avec la création dans les années 90 d’Imperial House, son propre label, Vivian Jones ne se donne plus limite et sort nombre d’albums et de 45 tours. Pour ces 50 ans, il sort l’album 50th en réinterprétant des titres de producteurs légendaires comme Bunny Lee. 10 ans plus tard, il produit l’album 60th. Plus récemment, et avec la scène dub française, Vivian Jones à collaborer avec Weeding Dub, Dub Shepherds ou encore Agubun.

Dans les bacs du One A Dem, il y a plusieurs tunes avec Jones qu’on adore, « Third World Man » produit par Russ Disciples ou encore « As A Rastaman », deuxième titre du premier maxi sorti en 2007 par Blackboard Jungle.

Dans la discographie du Sugar Love, on référence une vingtaine d’album et plus de 160 maxis et 45 tours. Impossible donc d’être exhaustif. Notre émission s’est appuyée en grande partie sur les disques de la collection du One A Dem et donc aux morceaux joués et produits sur la scène Soundsystem UK.

I am by no means a rasta, but I wanted to make this homage to genre of Dub. I love Dub and here I sampled Billy Boyo and interview with Bob Marley from New Zealand. I played bass and piano here and recorded melodica. Rest are beats from Ableton and more samples from the genre.
