The 1st Grounded Festival VA compilation will be released in parallel to its 7th edition, happening from 24.8. - 26.8.2023 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with this years theme PEACE. The VA compilation brings together local and international musicians who have performed at our previous editions or who will present themselves for the first time this year as part of the festival’s lineup.

All the proceeds from physical and digital sales will support Ukraine's efforts for justice and peace, and will be donated to the LGBTIQ+ military in Ukraine (linktr.ee/lgbtmilitary).

Peace is a condition for the exercise of human rights - in times of war and violence freedom of expression, the right of assembly, personal freedom, privacy, freedom of religion, mental and physical inviolability and, last but not least, the right to bare life are suspended. Every war is a massive and systematic violation of human rights, its victims are adults and children without a future: killed, missing, raped, tortured, exiled and imprisoned.

At the same time, the enforcement of human rights is a condition for peace. As one of this year's guests, Aida Čerkez, a journalist reporting from the besieged Sarajevo during the 1992-95, says: "Peace, but not at any price." In Palestine, the peace process is a euphemism for colonization by peaceful means, in Bosnia, the Dayton Peace Agreement is another name for the 20-year stagnation of the country and the entrenching of nationalism. Therefore, peace cannot and must not only be a state of the absence of war, but a state of justice and prosperity for all. As the slogan of the Black Lives Matter movement says, “No Justice, No Peace”.

In conversations, lectures and round tables with researchers, analysts and people with experience of war, members of peace movements, journalists, war reporters and artists, we will ask ourselves whether peace is an unconditional value or whether it has a price; what is the international architecture of peace and whether it is still able to respond to the demands of contemporary conflicts; what place do social and economic rights occupy in the international system of protection of human rights and lasting peace; if there is a just war, there is a just revolution - what is the relationship between the two?

The musical part of the festival, following the most current guidelines, presents the most exciting phenomena of post-club, experimental and daring electronic music for the seventh year in a row, this year again at various club locations at AKC Metelkova.

Swan Meat(Reba Fay) is a record producer and DJ from Washington DC based in Cologne, Germany. Since truly breaking onto the scene with her 2019 EP, FLESHWORLD (Infinite Machine), which Resident Advisor called “a dizzying sequence of references and samples programmed to shock and awe,” she has carved out her own niche in the underground, perfecting a sound in which sweeping string arrangements, 8-bit synth melodies, and gigantic kicks meet in a weird and eerie whorl. Her sound is exemplified in singles such as “SLUDGE,” “PSYCHOPATH,” and “BEHAVE,” among others, but especially on her latest EP, BLOOD SUPERNOVA, where her sound is pushed to its maximalist limit. A resident DJ on Cologne’s dublab outlet, as well as one-half of the techno duo House of Suns with DJH, Swan Meat has proven herself versatile and ever-evolving, touring the world with her extreme, uncompromising live sets. Fay also composes for video games, with recent projects including music for the Divine Disco in Bloodhunt.

Cenny Coast yobbo convert MidSizedSedance is a Central Coast/Sydney based DJ and Producer, commonly found under a freeway overpass; playing a barraging blend of huge kicks and chopped up drum breaks known loosely as Breakcore. 

MidSizedSedances DJ Mixes focus on high tempo alternative rave music. They often include live performances of their own music performed on a mix of modified gameboys, samplers and occasionally will put the decks away for an all hardware performance.

MidSizedSedance is one of several members that make up 200Pluscrew (200BPM+ Is My Safe Space), an anticapitalist record label and rave crew ran out of Eora and Naarm. Known for its free, community-focused and inclusive parties, showcasing some of Australia's best alternative rave elements across both NSW and VIC.

APEAK 'Serenity Before The World'

After a hiatus from his solo project Paavo Piekkari returns to Changeless as APEAK with his latest club forward offering ’Serenity Before The World’.

The four track EP explores what it’s like to exist in the world filled with distractions, love, hate, guestlists at various clubs and magick. Metros run at tight intervals in every part of the world, and people desire closeness after every afterparty. Perception of one’s reality can be altered with rituals or small bags of powders. If our goal is wakefulness, do we still fear the dreamless sleep after?

’Serenity Before The World’ opens with ‘Terminus’, a hard-hitting, noisy and colossal intro in the realm of the EP. ‘Terminus’ if followed by a collaboration with the legendary Northern Electronics and Posh Isolation affiliate Varg²™; their track ’Humid Air (上環)’ was born after two days of frenzy in Hong Kong together. The city seemed to breathe in and spit out everything that it inhaled, from the Rolex storefronts to the bright lights of the skyscrapers. While the first tracks of the EP showcase a more familiar sound from APEAK, the ecstatic ‘Dreamless Sleep’ unveils an entirely new, more euphoric side to his sonic palette. The EP’s closing track ’Stillness (TOMEANGLS)’ is an optimistic lullaby, that features guitars from fellow Hollowland band member Jonathan Engeldahl.
