"Ketch me if you can" – Der Karlsruher DJ Ketch hat seit über zwanzig Jahren die Clubs, Hip-Hop-Jams und Punk-Rock-Konzerte fest im Griff. Mittlerweile begeistert er regelmäßig das Publikum in der Schweiz und hat 2023 erstmals auch in Frankreich und Italien die Plattenteller zum Glühen gebracht. Wer sich auf energiegeladene DJ-Sets einlassen möchte, ist bei DJ Ketch genau richtig – ganz gleich, ob es um Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul, Punk Rock oder Open Format geht. Seine DJ-Wurzeln liegen eindeutig im Hip-Hop, was sich in seinen Sets durch Turntablism-Elemente widerspiegelt.

Ein besonderes Merkmal von DJ Ketch ist, dass er sein Funk-/Soul- und Rap-Set ausschließlich mit 45 Vinyl (7 Inch) auflegt. Zusammen mit seinem Crewmitglied Toby Tobsucht (Mainstation Sessions) ist er Mitglied des Forty Five Kings Collective und hat somit einen exklusiven Zugang zu den neuesten und hottesten Scheiben im handlichen Format.

Marc Hype began his DJ career, inspired by the late great Jam Master Jay, in 1988 and went through the several decades of hip hop with countless releases, tours and competitions like the ITF championships, which he won twice in 98 & 99. During this time he collaborated and recorded with artists like the Juice Crew legend Masta Ace, Souls Of Mischief, DJ Z-Trip, Killa Kela & Mr. Lif. Over the years his record collection and his musical mind  expanded and led him to all kinds of funky music. His selection on the decks as on production is freestyle, always with a unique groove, no matter the genre.

Jim Dunloop began to train as a classical piano player at the age of four. At his minor age he was analyzing the compositions of Gershwin and Bruback, leading to a keen interest in jazz music. He quickly developed his knowledge of the creative works of many great jazz/funk pianists such as Herbie Hancock , Bob James , Chick Corea and Adam Makiewicz.

In the year 2004 they both met in Berlin for the first time and quickly began to collaborate on shows and production. Their first vinyl releases on the infamous Milk Crate label, "The Antique Anthem", "Bombay Raw" & "Finale 74", were very successful in the worldwide dj-circuit, followed by a cover version of Babe Ruth's "The Mexican" in 2006, which was dubbed by UK's Jazzman Gerald as "the" version to have. On the remix tip they build a strong reputation with works for artists like All Good Funk Alliance, Deela or Kid Gusto.Their past tour schedule proved their ability to rock internationaly with stops allover europe as in NYC, Japan, Hong Kong, Russia, United Arabian Emirates, Israel & Australia.

The live performance of Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop is best defined as a mix of DJing, Turntablism and the highest of piano art. Together they gain 50 years of musical experience!

The Album

"Stamp Out Reality" is the musical manifest of Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop. A diverse mix of different styles which reflects their unique live concept. On the one hand you have classic hip hop joints like "Predominant" ft. the magnificent Mr. Lif or "Oh Really" ft. Queen's own Mr. Complex, on the other you might listening to Miami's Old School Funk legend Blowfly on "The Pussy Song", cuban diva Malena Perez from NYC on the latin influenced "Rare Occasion, heavy break stompers like "Wah Wah Wah"" or a funk cover version of the 80s electro classic "Al Naafiysh (The Soul)". The concept of the album is to display the diversity of the two maestros, coming from different backrounds, met inside the hip hop culture and travelleling through the paths of 21st century funk.

Schrägfunk ist die monatliche Radiosendung von Tina und Micha beim Freien Radio Querfunk Karlsruhe, bermuda.funk Mannheim/Heidelberg, Radio Corax Halle (Saale), Radio Dreyeckland Freiburg und Freies Radio Neumünster.

Von regionalen Newcomern wie Feel of the Knife und Parade, aufstrebenden Bands wie Sperling und Shitney Beers bis zu national bekannten Künstler:innen wie Adam Angst, Pabst, Kettcar, Muff Potter, Schrottgrenze und Neoangin aka Jim Avignon, treffen Tina und Micha Musiker:innen und verwickeln sie in bodenlose Gespräche über deren Musik und den Sinn und Unsinn von Erdnussbutter-Sandwiches.

Für Themensendungen wird auch mal im Waschsalon dreckige Wäsche gewaschen, nach Schneeliedern gestöbert oder am Abend gefrühstückt.
Bei der Auswahl der Gesprächspartner:innen und der Musik geben die beiden nicht einem bestimmten Musikstil den Vorrang, sondern es gilt: lieber schrammelig als perfekt, eher holperig als glatt, Emotion vor Logik.
Dazwischen geht es kreuz und quer und drumherum, denn irgendwas geht immer und wenn es schräg wird, umso besser.

Schrägfunk – mehr als Radio
Seit Herbst 2020 geht Schrägfunk regelmäßig als Schrägfunk Live auf die Bühne. Mit mehreren Gästen aus der Kulturszene wird das, was im Radio Programm ist, live für das Publikum erlebbar gemacht. Hier verstricken sich die Gesprächspartner:innen in Diskussionen über Ananas auf Pizza und erzählen von Lust und Leid des Musiker:innendaseins. Genießbar gemacht wird das Ganze durch Musikeinlagen der Gäste oder der Band des Abends.

Mit der Konzertreihe Schrägfest bringt Schrägfunk seit Juli 2022 in Kooperation mit verschiedenen Karlsruher Locations ein sorgfältig abgestimmtes Line-up aus Newcomern, regionalen Musiker:innen und überregionalen Acts auf die Bühne.
