Live at Twisted Frequency 2021/22 Ft. Stingy Hooligan

I got booked to play this beautiful little party by The Busy Movement after one of the organisers heard me play at a private party up in Te Arai about 6 weeks prior. I was asked straight after my set, but she had to check with her partner before locking it in. 

The next morning I was sitting next to one of my closest friends, talking and laughing like little kids as we always do, when the organiser came bouncing over with a big grin to tell me that it was all on and i was confirmed to play on the Friday/Saturday from 2am-4am. I was so humbled and excited by how this came about...

A few weeks later I received the news that my friend I was sitting next to that morning had crashed his car and passed away at the age of 34. He was one of my closest friends; we acted like little kids most of the time we were together - we shared the same silly sense of humour and the same passion for amazing music. 

This set was the first time I played since that private party and the passing of my dear friend and brother. Emotions were still raw, I had no idea what I was going to play, but I had my brother in my heart and this is the set that came out.

Thank you to Christa for booking me, and Janik for putting on such a beautiful party alongside her. 

This is dedicated to Jackson Takiaho, rest easy my friend x

Describing this moment to a stranger is impossible!
There we all were at our favourite festival, with our favourite people, at our favourite time of the day, at our favourite stage with my favourite partners in crime. On my birthday!

Sunday Morning 8 -12 was the most ideal time for our set. As we started playing the sun was hovering over the trees into the lake creating a yummy warmth that would last the whole day. In fact we got so hot by the end that we had throw Paule into the lake to cool down (and it was my birthday wish).

Our musical journey started with some slow 90 - 100 bpm Wavy Downtempo to get all the morning stretching and catching up with all the crew from a big Saturday night, there was so much creation and sparkly goodness in the air. After a few hours our partner Geo Seato joined us  and added his deep and hypnotic flute to the sounds. It was magical.
Mid set we started getting gruntier and chucked in some deep grooves with heavier baselines. Was a perfect match to the crowd's needs to keep bopping. 
In the end from a slow moving crowd we managed to bump the tempos up to 110 bpm and that resulted in a roaring crowd that was ready for the Sunday magic and Cheep Frills coming in suuuuper hot after us with their first Live set together. It could not have been more perfect!!

The only sad thing was that Geo's flute did not make it in the recording. But not to worry it was insane!!

The beauty of this moment was unprecedented for us. It will be hard to replicate.
Thank you Shipwrecked Festival for this incredible booking and for catering for such a unique and special crowd all the way through till the end. 
We are so lucky to be part of such a loving community of creators that year after year come and showcase their gift to rave. It is special!

See you all in 2026 for our 10 year anniversary!!
