This is the studio version of a special track I performed “live” at the funeral of the late Reverend Elder Setu Maliko Masina. Setu was one of the founding Ministers of the PIC movement in New Zealand and a highly respected icon of the Porirua community. Regarded as a “spiritual leader” to many of us from within the Porirua community, it was a very humbling experience to be asked to perform this song on behalf of the family. Setu will be sorely missed. Se aso tatou toe fa’atasi ai. (Till we meet again…)

I take a lot of inspiration from 70s and 80s soul and funk artists. It was an amazing time for musical movements and Roy Ayers changed the game. For me its all about his passion and realness. ‘Everybody Loves the Sunshine’ is a classic and one that I wanted to share with with a new generation. 

Im really enjoying working with these old school vocals. Taking classic the blue sounds of R&B and rebirthing them for the bass generation. Rhythm & Bass.

The Dublin producer takes his sweet time, studiously layering the atmosphere over 10+ minutes before bringing it all to a momentous climax worthy of space disco king Lindstrøm himself. I mean, the man showed up to play for our Hivern Discs showcase in Primavera in an all-white suit - we should have known he meant business all along.
