Lush atmospherics and rowdy dance floor favourites by two of Melbourne’s finest, Millú and Pjenné. These two sonic soulmates have been busy at work channeling their predilection for ethereal 90s electronica and meditative leftfield sounds with the start of their record label, Companion. Intrigued to hear more, we got in touch to get the low-down on the new project and life in Australia, among other things. Furthermore, they found a gap in their busy timetable and laid down a beautiful mix for us, which glides from contemplative mind soothers to fist-pumping party vibes in a seamless, 70-minute transmission.

Perth-based DJ and producer Guy Contact treats us to a tasty selection of mid-tempo groovers and trancey atmospherics. Guy Contact has recently been picking up more steam than a 1860’s locomotive. After clocking in a couple of solid 12” releases on Butter Sessions and Coymix Ltd., Callum is about to treat us to some more material pretty soon with new records coming up on Haŵs and Craigie Knowes. We caught up for the occasion.

Pat Brick aka DJ Life has been on a steady rise since his debut record released in 2019 with Echocentric Records, corresponding with the labels first release. The Aussie DJ and producer has since had a total of eight releases with prominent underground labels such as Dansu Discs, R.A.N.D. Muzik, and most recently, Lobster Theremin’s Distant Horizons sublabel. The energetic and fun take at combining prog, trance and techno has landed DJ Life’s name amongst the top in his league of sound.

We caught up with DJ Life on this edition of MIXED BY to discuss a bit about his music production, influences and the Australian underground dance music scene.

@innerinnerlife is the music project of Polish producer and designer Tomasz Szpaderski. His music is centered around all things humane and focused to enrich the casual beauty of everyday life - an ethereal universe at the gates between reality and fantasy. Sometimes ethereally digital and noisily analogue at other times, innerinnerlife’s music cultivates an essential aural aesthetic that balances rose-tinted optimism and the clarity that comes with embracing imperfection.

He released music on a range of international labels including @transatlanticrecords, @displayseries, @eastern-nurseries and @wesurf.

Label head of Related Articles, Sequentia (@sequentia666) is the solo moniker of Grace Verweij, a musician and facilitator based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Grace hosts a monthly radio show on 95bFM called ‘Soundbleed’, was formerly a facet of projects ‘lskse_’ and ‘Milk’, and in 2019 they co-established the biennial 3-day experimental music event ‘Outlier Festival’.

With a selection of deep and chugging bass, house and techno this is a mix that equally see itself lending its ears to the home listener as well as the club dancefloor frequenters. Its this diverse sound that has seen Ciel take the helms of some of the greatest clubs, festivals, radio shows and podcasts as well as releasing solid records on labels like Mister Saturday Night, Peach Discs, Coastal Haze and more her sound is truly solidified through these outputs. We are delighted to have Ciel join us ahead of some of her amazing shows this year like Kala Festival & Multi Multi(Where we will also be hosting a 20 Years Of Phonica Stage). We had a chat with Ciel about the mix and about some of the releases she has coming up.
