Kicking off 2024 with a super exciting collab here from house music hero Low Steppa and Tony Romera, who is shaping up to be one of the most exiting up and coming prospects on the circuit. Low Steppa enjoyed an incredible 2023 with sold out shows all over the world and releases on key imprints such as Defected, Armada and his own Simma Black.

Off the back of his overall Beatport #1 with us last year, Tony recently signed into a 5 single deal with Toolroom and is a huge priority for the label, he is rapidly climbing the ranks with solid releases on Solotoko and Black Book and has a US tour alongside fellow up and coming Toolroom talent, Crusy, already penned for next Summer.
 
This record is a straight up, no nonsense club track with an infectious vocal that’s already garnering support from heavyweight DJ’s such as Dom Dolla, Dombresky and John Summit.

Long-standing Toolroom Family member and fan favourite, Ben Remember returns to the label with ‘Waiting 4 You’. Ben debuted on Toolroom back in 2015 and released a steady output of house bangers over the years that followed. Annie Mac, Gorgon City and Pete Tong have all provided heavy support which has resulted in multiple Radio One spins and chart success across leading download stores. Ben is our head tutor for the Toolroom Academy arm of the business, where the self-confessed ‘studio geek’ shares his production skills and knowledge with the next generation of music producers.

As with all of Ben’s records, this is super creative and super original. Based around an infectious disco vocal sample and all created using out-board, analogue studio gear which gives the track a real gritty undertone. Ben is back with a bang and has plenty more weapons lined up for 2024!

If we are talking about funky house music, we should also talk about its original: The 1970s when progressive and psychedelic rock evolved out of the traditional rock and roll and funk mutated out of the traditional rhythm and blues music of the 60s and early 70s. Both of these core elements can still be found in nowadays dance and house music.
MAURIZIO BASILOTTA & DA FUNK JUNKIES demonstrate pretty well how classic funk elements can be blended with modern house music and still sound fresh and exciting. GOTTA GET YOU OFF MY MIND takes this approach even up a notch and showcases all the facets of house, nu-disco and funk music in a jam of just over 5 minutes. Since the inception of his live show and his exciting new style of house music, Alex Preston has become a force to be reckoned with in the world of electronic music. The Sydney-native utilises his skills as a virtuoso musician as he tastefully melds his signature guitar licks with disco tinged bass lines and warm pulsating house beats. 

2020 is proving to be Alex Preston’s breakout year with Mark Knight labelling him as one of his favourite producers and one to watch out for in the coming months. Signing with Mark’s infamous Toolroom Records, Alex was handed the responsibility of mixing and curating the Toolroom Poolside Album 2020. The release features 4 new originals from Alex with vocals from Rion S and includes his collaboration with the legendary, Friend Within. It also includes 2 DJ mixes hand picked by Alex, not only showcasing Alex’s production talents but also his skills as a tastemaker DJ. 

The run up to the end of 2019 saw Alex’s music hit a new gear as Traxsource named him their no.15 highest selling House artist for 2019; Alex sharing the top 20 with names such as David Penn, Low Steppa, Mousse T, Kevin McKay, Purple Disco Machine & Todd Terry. 

This momentum flowed into January 2020 as Friend Within played Alex’s single “Your Ragga” off his Basement Sound label on BBC Radio 1 Future Anthems; along with the Aston Shuffle spinning his track “A Very Healthy Thing” off Low Steppa’s Simma Black imprint on Triple J; all in the same weekend. 

The following week Mark Knight dropped “A Very Healthy Thing” on Toolroom Radio and hailed Alex as “a name to look out for in 2020”. Toolroom records singing Alex’s single “An Example of Disco” (featuring the vocals of Rion S) scheduling it for a worldwide release on 6 March 2020 adding it to their Miami 2020 Compilation. 

Alex also signed with Kevin McKay’s hugely successful, Glasgow Underground. With Kevin himself editing one of Alex’s more blues-influenced tracks, “Get Myself Together” (also featuring the vocals of Rion S and released on 3 April 2020). 

The rest of 2020 is looking solid for Alex with a collaboration with Siege due for release on Toolroom’s T2 Album in July, along with releases on the uber cool UK based Another Rhythm Records. Not to mention, there’s word of an album dropping on his own Basement Sound imprint in September!
