Gene Hunt is truly one of Chicago’s Pioneers in the house music industry since the early 80s. He has been one of the top jocks moving and educating crowds and music lovers for the past 25 years of his career. Playing at the hottest venues around the world such as The Music Box, Medusas, Green Dolphin, Smart Bar, Metro, the Mid, XOXO – UK, Hectors Lounge – Scotland, Dimensions Festival – Croatia, Field Maneuvers – Oxford UK, 212 - Leeds and many more.

Gene’s first EP in 1987; Living in the land was released on an old classic label where Chicago house music was exposed called Traxx. He then moved onto several UK labels such as, Djax,
Hybrid, Mc Projects, Step 2 House, Svek and Rush hour where he made is mark abroad. Mr. Hunt has released his albums “In Sound” on Little Angel Recording – Harley & Muscle, and “Seasoned” on Unified Records. He’s recently joined the Aria team for Roland, sat on a panel and was interviewed for his opinion on their Pro-Audio Studio Gear for Music Production products.

Gene has appeared as headliner at many festivals such as; Outside Lands, Glastonbury, Firefly, Coachella in the Heineken Dome and performed at Chicago’s own Summer Dance, down town. Gene is a 2011, 2012 and 2018 winner of the NBC Chicago Music Awards along with being nominated in 2016, he was listed as number one in 2011 for top dance album in the United Kingdom, with his “Dance Track Volume One” album. Gene’s performed at Boiler Room London and Boiler Room Chicago. He won the Global Mix Award, and performed at the Congress Theater who then, was interviewed for the release of the History of House Music Chicago LP CD and DVD. Gene also has a custom line of headphones designed by his very self for some of the top house & hip-hop legends in the industry; he was also the apprentice of the late legendary Ron Hardy US Studio.

Gene is currently on the verge of launching his very own website www.mrgenehunt.com, along with working on a new compilation with Rush Hour Records and starting his first record label “Jack in the Hunt Records”. He was recently inducted into the Hot Mix 5 est. 1981 as their newest member of the group with an induction party on July 3rd, so keep a lookout!

On a brief return to London, I was going through my humongous box of classic live mixes and came across this one Robert Owens live @ The Choice 1990. Robert needs no introduction...lead vocalist on the legendary 'Another Side' Lp from Mr Fingers and vocalist on the classic 'Tears' by Frankie Knuckles amongst many many other House classics we know. Here this live mix is from The Choice which was in the Lower East Side...LES a.k.a Alphabet City. The Choice was run by Joey Llanos who was head of security at Paradise Garage and Richard Vasquez. It was also where David Mancuso R.I.P lived and where he hosted his Loft parties. The venue was not in great shape during this time and David also hired it out to Joey and Richard. It did have a great history and Klipsch speakers and incredible Dancers and great array of DJ's play there such as Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan, Victor Rosado, Basil, DJ Disciple, Bobby Konders and many more...enjoy :).

Love Injection is a New York music and culture monthly fanzine in print since February 2015, founded by DJs, archivists, and audio enthusiasts Paul Raffaele and Barbie Bertisch. Their namesake record label launched in 2020. Avid record and audio enthusiasts, Paul is also an art director and Barbie writes and performs music with various projects.

For the 11th installment in our Just For The Night series, selectors take you on their own journey through groove. Anything goes.

Etched into the history of Italian House is one Carlo Troja, aka Don Carlos. In 1991 @IrmaRecords released his first single Alone, which almost immediately gained cult status. The soft, ambient, dream-like production defined a genre that came to be known as Paradise House. 

One of his more recent excursions that piqued our interest was a four-track EP on @razor-n-tape under artist name Montego Bay, all melodic house jams & sampled disco cuts. Don Carlos and S-Tone (Stefano Tirone @stoneinc) released two records on Bologna label Calypso in the early 90s and incredibly, the 4 tracks on this EP were produced 30 years ago, then shelved and forgotten about.

A true music obsessive, he has graciously delivered an hour of lush Mediterranean & Adriatic-soaked groovers from his extensive record collection. Benvenuti in paradiso. 🌴
