Spy DJ (@thebandit808) is a regular DJ in the electronic scene of Barcelona for over 20 years. He is known for his constant work in the diffusion of Electro and also for his energetic Techno sessions. In 2001 he debuted as a DJ in the Neon room of Nitsa and since then he has toured countless national and some international clubs, where his sessions and the Electroclub parties of which he was the organizer have been programmed, parties that evolved as a collective to later become a netlabel. He is also a founding member of the labels Útil Récords and Gente Seria Viste Chandal. Spy is also dedicated to production under the alias The Bandit and has released with a number of great labels.

El pasado 29 de junio tuve el placer de organizar una noche en Laut Barcelona con DJ Dex aka Nomadico de Underground Resistance. 
Yo hice las dos primeras horas y él cerró con un set de 3 horas donde sonaron desde clásicos como Charlie "Spacer Woman" o varios de Underground Resistance remezclados live por Nomadico gracias al sampler que acompaña sus djs sets así como lo último de British Murder Boys. Este mix son los últimos 90 minutos de su set y aquí os dejo una mini entrevista que le he hecho para acompañarlo.

-¿Que música escuchabas antes o además de la música electrónica?
-Los Ángeles siempre ha tenido mucha variedad de escenas y música en la radio. Entonces cuando era joven probé un poco todo! Creo que el hip-hop era el más importante, especialmente en los 80s, antes del "gangsta rap". Las palabras de artistas como Ice-T, Public Enemy, Kool Moe Dee, KRS-1 eran como una educación fuera de la escuela. Tambien la musica 'hardcore' como el grupo Suicidal Tendencies de Los Ángeles, me ayudó mucho como un joven enojado porque perdi mi padre cuando tenía nomas 7 años.
 
-¿Cuándo te interesaste por la música electrónica? Puedes contar un poco de tus inicios en Los Angeles, como eran las fiestas en tu ciudad en aquellos tiempos? ¿Cuándo empezaste a hacer de DJ y productor?
-Mi hermana mayor iba muchas fiestas durante la época de "high energy" disco en los 80s y tenía cassettes de DJs. Mi primer introducción a un mixtape fue uno de esos cassettes. Me acuerdo que tenía disco, synth-pop y italo todo mezclado. Los Angeles tenía una estación de radio llamada KDAY que fue muy importante para introducirme a la música electro, hip-hop y house. DJ Tony G (Antonio Gonzalez) fue muy importante en ser uno de los "mixmasters" más importantes de esa época que mezcló todo los estilos. Más adelante, en la secundaria, me interesó un poco los party crews y también los grupos de bailar conocidos como "dance crews". En ese tiempo los DJs mezclaban todo en las fiestas. No importaba si era quinceañera o un "backyard party", se oía todo, desde Depeche Mode a Chicago House y Cumbias. Con el tiempo llegaron los sonidos de Rave, pero Detroit Techno era como un secreto, que pocos entendían en Los Ángeles. A los 16 años unos amigos se organizaron para comprar tornamesas, bocinas y empezar a ofrecer servicios de DJs. Pasamos como un año tocando en muchas fiestas en la escuela y en casas. Mi primera experiencia en un club fue cuando alquilamos un club de salsa para un evento. Tenía 17 años. Pasaron como 4 años para que me interesara la producción y compre un MPC 2000XL, un Roland XP-10 y un Mackie 1402 cuando estaba en la universidad aprendiendo de los sintetizadores y como grabar.
 
-¿Cómo contactaste con UR y acabaste trabajando en Submerge en Detroit y siendo miembro de UR?
-Yo era parte de un grupo de aficionados de Detroit Techno en Los Ángeles durante los 1990s. En ese tiempo el Trance era lo que se oía en los raves y warehouse parties. De hecho, unos amigos como Santiago Salazar, Esteban Adame, Juan Mendez (Silent Servant) y Adrian Sandoval (Developer) ordenamos discos directos de Submerge. Submerge cambió sitios de 2030 Grand River para 3000 East Grand Blvd en el año 2000. En 2001 Mike buscaba ayuda con Submerge y le ofreció trabajo a Santiago Salazar por teléfono. El mismo año, yo fui al segundo DEMF para conocer la ciudad y Mike Banks. Pasé una noche en el nuevo edificio "3000" cuando todavía estaba en construcción. Inmediatamente Mike fue un consejero y como un hermano mayor. Al principio del 2002 Mike Banks me ofreció un trabajo también. Me fui de Los Ángeles sin pensarlo mucho.
 
-¿Como fue en esos días tu experiencia como miembro de UR viviendo en Detroit y ahora viviendo fuera de Detroit?

We are still recovering some gems from the past. This time, this track was released in 2008 on a compilation from rare spanish Zero Oscillator label. The track “Network Society” appeared surrounded by tracks and artists such as Arcanoid, Miguel Mendoza or well established Oscar Mulero. The compilation represented the music template for the label in that moment with more stuff to come, but unfortunately no more releases where followed so this reference became a rare item for vinyl collectors.

Today, Boris Divider presents again the original track with some other reworked and remixed stuff. Keeping the original vibe but refreshing with some new arrangements with a mix between Detroit and Düsseldorf in the new versions. In the other hand, it has been included “In My Eyes” and exclusive and original track as a not so hidden tribute work to a well known band/producer from the 80s electronic scene, veteran people will know recognise for sure the iconic snare and rhythm.

A release with pulse and rhythm, heritage and push forward mood at the same time. For the Drivecom fans and followers with an exclusive orange limited 200 vinyl.
