this alias was practically an amalgamation of me at my worst, making shit and imitating to please others, and throwing shit at the walls and seeing whatever stuck. i am not proud of like 90% of my music aside from tracks i made after a certain point and very few made before then. i'm making shit under a whole other alias now, what's the alias? none of your business, because i want to leave this all behind and start anew once more. i have abandoned like 3-4 separate aliases in favor of the next and the cycle only ended because i stopped forcing myself to produce shit under a standard i could never fit in the first place because it was genuinely not making me happy.
my advice to any newer producers: do not feel pressure to fit yourself into any bubble. i did this to myself and it fucking sucked. you don't need a bunch of samples and plugins to make a good song, sometimes simple is good. early tracker music which is how a lot of hardcore/subgenres came to be, is very simple in sound. also be as cringe with it as you want, i've been doing this autisticly-fueled sampling bullshit for 2 years coming on 3 now. if people shit on you flip them off. find your own style and don't let people try to influence you too hard, it's great to have inspiration but always try to branch off of it, try to bring something new to the table. when people ask for similar artist recommendations, they're not always gonna mean carbon copies of the same artist.
tangentially-related: try being original with your sample choices, and if it's already been used; don't stress about it too hard, if you flip it in your own unique style it legitimately won't matter much in the end. finding samples isn't easy when you're full of inspiration because then it's gonna stump you. that's why i'll always suggest making playlists of songs you like of differing genres, there's bound to be some insanely niche artist only you and 5 other people care about and then you're gonna sample it and it's gonna be totally fucking great, alright?
TL;DR BE YOURSELF WHEN YOU MAKE MUSIC, DON'T LET PEOPLE MOVE YOU AROUND ENDLESSLY, BEING SIMPLE IS NEVER INHERENTLY BAD, YOU DON'T NEED 500 PLUGINS FOR AN INTERESTING SOUND BUT IT DOES HELP, FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT. LET YOUR FUN BE ENDLESS.
