This lush and musical 17-track affair is Sean’s first big solo project and it has been in the works for almost three years. Written mostly in his Bristol studio, the LP features a wealth of international collaborations – Jennifer Wallace, Diane Charlemagne, Renn - and has been made primarily on real hardware such as the Fender Rhodes, SH-09, Juno 106, Poly 61, JV-1010, EMU Vintage Keys and the Moog Slim Phatty.

 

Sean who has been producing since his teens and includes fine labels like US garage staple King Street Sounds, Defected, Strictly Rhythm and Local Talk in his discography says of the album: “It was important for me to get it perfected to my original vision, and to keep that vision throughout was difficult. I’ve literally drawn inspiration from everything that’s influenced me as producer and writer over the years. I always wanted to create something that demonstrates all my tastes in soulful dance music which can be influenced by so many sub genres like Hip Hop, Disco, Jazz, Soul, Deep House, US garage etc. The NuYorican Soul album has always been a benchmark for me in terms of a perfectly constructed album and is something I never get tired of listening to.”

 

Those influences shine though in this fantastically musical and deeply considered album: it bares all the hallmarks of a proper full length that has been built from the ground up with fantastic arrangements, catchy vocals and real song structures.

 

The production values are sky high on this album, and though it might have been a long time in the making, it was worth it, because it categorically proves that now really is Sean McCabe’s time.

New York native, Merlin Bobb joins the show today. The celebrated DJ & producer and music executive has been helping shape the house and dance music scene ever since his days at WBLS, Atlantic and Elektra Records. He's contributed to several careers such as Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, Tony Humphries, DJ Spinna & Roger Sanchez to name only a few. Also one of the co-founders of the legendary Shelter nightclub in 1991.

In recent years Merlin has shifted his passion back to production and has been hard at work in the studio releasing music on 201 Records, Quantize Recordings, and this weeks new release on Mark Francis’ Access Records. ‘Ain’t It Nice’ is a soulful collab with Masaki Morii and is out now exclusively at Traxsource. I'm DJ Ayr 1, I specialize in house music in various forms from soulful vocal house, Deep house, Jackin house, Gospel Uplifting house and Disco House. I grew up listening to rare groove soul and disco from the 80's and the great thing about House is that it contains so many elements and samples that do justice to soul music. I was really into 4 to the Floor Garage which started to die in 97/98 and morphed into 2 step Garage which I didn't like, so I made the switch to House music which had a similar sound to 4 to the Floor and the rest was history! On the house scene I'm Influenced by the likes of Bobby & Steve, Reelsoul, DJ Sneak, MAW, Mr V, Smokingrooves and many more who I have listened to over the years. My aim is to keep house alive!
