Basilisk is a veteran DJ, label owner, and music publisher from Canada now residing in Taiwan. DJ Basilisk explores many shades of deep house, melodic and dub techno, and leftfield dance music in this meticulously-curated guest mix for the Taipei-based Evaporate crew. Although rooted in the psytrance scene, Basilisk is a true sonic chameleon, traversing an immense range of styles and approaches in pursuit of gourmet electronic sounds. Here he applies his signature smooth and harmonic mixing style to subterranean house and techno, navigating the moody depths of the genre with confidence and aplomb. Expect to hear warm grooves, sultry vocals, hints of jazz, and a dash of "Rominimal" in the opening half of the mix, after which Detroit techno drive and brawny bass-heavy beats deliver a glimmering climax. A serene and hypnotic comedown follows, delicately stripping back the layers until only raw analog sounds and tape hiss remain. The results are spellbinding and sublime, inviting further listening over the coming years.

Goa is over 20 years old in the mean time. Time to have a retrodelic look! For this I dug in my huge cd & vinyl collection and decided to make a mix for every year for the period 1994-2014 to show the "new" generation of goa people how goa-trance evolved, and never really died ;)

Well, what can we say after these wonderful 5 days...it's been such an honour to open the Apsara Festival with my buddy, Psymon. We've been behind the booth at many great parties and festivals, but this was something special. We knew what legendary artists we were going to warm up the dancefloor for, so this two-hour journey was more of a diverse tribute to the history of our beloved genre than a classic warm up set. We felt wonderful energies throughout the festival,it was an unforgettable celebration of goatrance. Love & Light

RTTS@ROCKET in London 94 4th Dec

1st of November is All Saints in Belgium, the day we go to the cemetery to honor and pray for the people we lost. Because of the happenings at Nova Festival and the fact I was on that spot that same weekend, I wanted to honour all my personal pals and friends that went to the other world while dancing in an imaginary perfect world. I did this tribute through music. Sometimes words can't express feelings, but music can. This set was played at the Old is Gold party in Belgium the week after the happenings and it contains only music by Israëli artists, and some tracks from Naor Levi's (Dj Audiophiller) compilation. On top of that, many of the titles/samples have a special meaning as well. It is a 3 hours long journey from more darkish acidic goa-trance to heavenly melodic blisfull music. All mixed with CDJ2000's and original cds.

Important addendum: this tribute is not political in any way and, as a pacifist, I am against all violence. I believe every innocent dead person is a disgrace and a shame for mankind and I can only hope war stops right now. As a young dad every video with kids and babies that died or were bombed, simply breaks my heart. I hope all spirits of people that loved to dance and are not alive anymore can join in heaven on the wildest goa-party ever! Whatever history, color, religion or culture you have!

It was like a dream. From the moment I was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia, my goal was to play music again. For months and months survival chances were not too big, and dj-ing was a far away fantasy. Untill Surya Spirits. A Belgian festival happening 10km away from the hospital. Almost 3 months I was in the hospital and the doctors understood the importance of this gig so they allowed me to play (and return immediately after). It was magic. It was fantastic. It was all I could dream of. It was... The healing power of music. It was raining cats and dogs untill I started to play (literally) and the sun broke through a few minutes after. The crowd gathered, stomping in the mud while smiling in the sun. I adapted my set to a euphoric, emotional, melodic story. Because that is how I felt in that afternoon sun. Celebrate life! And yes... I knew immediately, yes, this is one of the main reasons why I will heal! Of course there is still a long way to go, but if I am having a bad time, I put myself on the bed, close my eyes and bring the memories back of this gig. Sunshine, happy people and an energy I rarely felt before! Thank you lovely trance tribe, you gave me life and made my life rich! ❤

Basilisk is a veteran multi-genre DJ, co-founder of the psychedelic techno label @Techgnosis-Records alongside @benramamusic, founder of the iconic @Ektoplazm free music portal and label group (including Ektoplazm, Drumlore, and Omnitropic), lossless audio enthusiast, and dedicated archivist and electronic music curator. Originally hailing from Toronto, Canada, he is now based in Taipei, Taiwan.

Psytrance, techno, electro, house, trance, acid, breaks, bass, IDM, ambient—you name it, I probably spin it. My mixes fluidly combine different genres into harmonic journeys that defy convention.
