Koop - Modal Mile (Two Banks Of Four Remix)

Decided to do something a bit different and do a slo-mo mix. It starts at about 100bpm, meanders to about 110 and then I jacked it up for the last track. Feedback appreciated, bit of an experiment here guys.

Recorded in one take with a pair of turntables, a pair of cdjs, and a rubbish mixer. It's "live" so expect some 'characterful' clashes here and there.

What Is This (feat. Rosie Lowe)

Music continues to evolve and lions continue to roar!  Thus is the case with Michael The Lion and his first EP on Soul Clap Records. Great music often pays homage to its foundational past and Michael’s original music accomplishes this with his sample-based focus rooted in a disco-funk-soul core but with a keen sensibility for today’s dance floor. His incorporation of live vocals from Amy Douglas’ gutsy performance on the modern funk monster “Get It On” results in original songs vs. the “one hour bedroom tracks” that proliferate today. 

Bosq was put on remix duty for the EP, and here he describes his process - "I decided to approach this remix a little different and write an entirely new song under Amy's vocals. I took her (incredible) performance and just jammed along, I think I started with piano. It ended up being I think the most instruments I've ever played on a single track. From piano, Rhodes, percussion, drums, bass and once I mustered the courage for saxophone and trumpet too. It was a different approach to remixing for me. I treated it more like writing an original track than a remix. In my head this track lives on a dance floor somewhere like the loft in the early 70s, I hope it can take y'all there too!"

As well as hosting the Midnight Riot West parties in his home city, the DJ/producer has also released countless cuts on Yam Who's various imprints. This, though, seems to be his first appearance on Black Riot. His "Balearic Sunrise Mix" of "Clasmic's House" delivers what it promises, wrapping a typically tactile nu-disco/deep house groove in dream house chords, loved-up synthesizer melodies and - of course - loon bird samples. De Fantastiske To recast the track as a bustling chunk of riff-propelled deep house, before Alan Dixon whips out his Roland TB-303 and gives the cut a more jacking, Larry Heard style vibe.

Kastle's most recent transmission emerges from a field of fog, defiantly titled and as clearly designed and intentioned as ever. Resurrection is the natural follow-up to 2015's Polytopia, a series of mini epics that exemplify the marriage of dynamic sonics and narrative-driven track construction. Matching crystalline sound design with gritty textural inflections, Resurrection's five tracks walk the line between human touch and automated processes, embodying a spectral state that is at once tactile and out of reach.

Jumpstarted by the ominous, dub-siren laced "Daemon", Resurrection progresses naturally through a range of contemporary, soundsystem-ready sounds, utilizing familiar drum structures for entirely new purposes while constructing a flexible edifice that shimmers and contorts as the EP moves along.
