Wah Wah 45s bring you four incredible re-works from French disco don The Reflex, for our very own legendary Canadian/Haitian keyboard wiz Henri-Pierre Noel.

Funky Spider Dance is a percussion heavy bomb filled to the brim with Henri's soaring piano licks and infectious female vocal hooks. The Reflex has taken what was already a sure-fire club favourite, and created something of a dance floor destroyer.

His rework of A Fifth of Beethoven takes its time to build into another heavy hitter. As the beats make way for Henri's deft keyboard flourishes, the recognition of this cover of the Walter Murphy classic (taken from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack) begins to dawn - and as it does, it's clear that once again the dream team of HPN and The Reflex have worked their magic!

The Reflex's Revision of Back Home...; Sweet Home is a modern Island Funk masterpiece with organ and tropical guitar riffs making way for sunny brass stabs all underpinned by foot friendly beats.

And last, but most certainly not least, the full-length version of The Reflex's re-working of the dancer's favourite Diskette, is available here for the very first time in all of its glory!

The original versions of Funky Spider Dance and Back Home...; Sweet Home can be found on Henri's One More Step album, Diskette is taken from his debut, Piano, and his take of A Fifth of Beethoven was recently available on 7-inches of wax - all on Wah Wah 45s of course. The Reflex Revisions all appear here together for the very first time!

There's a lot of reasons to celebrate Manchester's music scene. The city's had a massive pool of creative talent pretty much since the dawn of time, and now it seems better than ever. One of the main reasons for that is the expansive LEVELZ family, a collective once described as "the Wu-Tang Clan meets the Happy Mondays." The core LEVELZ team, if you didn't already know, includes Biome, Black Josh, Bricks, Chimpo, Chunky, Dub Phizix, Fox, Jonny Dub, Metrodome, Rich Reason, Skittles, Sparkz, Truthos Mufasa and T-Man, as well as a slew of friends and supporting artists—many of whom are multi-disciplined artists who produce, DJ and rap. For this new mix—which comes ahead of their show at Shapes in Hackney, London this Friday, Bricks goes yet further to shake off the shackles of hip-hop and grime that are so often attached to the collective. We get reggae, rock, soul, funk, hip-hop, breaks—everything! Even your mum could shake a leg to this one.

“Arrrrggghaaa arrrrghaaaa! Cries Tarzan, and all the beasties come a running. The ground shakes to a thousand pairs of thundering hooves. Tarzan stands stock still in a large clearing, wet-look soft rock hair glistening in the sunlight, loincloth tight, nonchalantly cleaning his nails as the beasts bear down on him… Oooof! The beasties just steamrollered over him and come to a screeching halt at the feet of…  Charlie Beale! As I live and breathe! “Awright Geezers?” says Charlie, “Welcome to Freemixed Nuts Volume 4” and the elephants trumpet euphorically. 

The camera pans around to Leo who’s wearing a banana fancy dress outfit, grinning from ear to ear in the arms of a lovestruck silverback. Waggles and The Fritz are in matching pink tights and tu-tu’s, instructing a chorus line of flamingos the flamenco. Dephicit has covered his chin with lemon curd (again) and is now sporting an incredibly hipster beard made entirely of ants and wasps. X-Ray Ted is playing with the monkeys…oooh, they really shouldn’t be flinging that stuff around, it’ll get in someone’s eye! Get a room! Mr Stabalina is teaching the cutie meerkats to swear, he’s going to hell for that! Bear Twists is..oh my god, he’s TWISTING BEARS! Oh wait, he’s just giving Baloo a Chinese burn. General News turns to the camera, waves a glitter cannon filled with hallucinogenic frogs and says in his best Tony Montana voice, “Say hello to my little friends” and fires his psychoactive ammo. Bam!  …hey, why are my hands so big? Why has everything gone purple? Woah, can you see elephants?

There is a piece from every release I ever put out from 1992 to 2002 in this mix from a UCLA art student cd release, an underground rap compilation cassette,  J5, Ozomatli, mix cds with Shadow, remixes, etc...its all in there. I encourage folks to identify any piece you can.. Ill help with the hard ones.
