Captain Planet has been on a roll over the last year, with the release his acclaimed debut album “Cookin’ Gumbo”, an expansive European tour, and a steady stream of head-turning remixes for heavyweights like Ana Tijoux, Katy B, AM & Shawn Lee, The Pimps of Joytime, Scrimshire and more. Now the wayfaring dj/producer returns to Bastard Jazz for a very special cassette tape project entitled “Mystery Trip Vol. 1”.
 
Approaching the project with a classic mixtape mentality and drawing inspiration from Madlib’s “Medicine Show” series, the Captain has sourced out sounds from all corners of the globe. Obscure cuts were ripped from vinyl, then sliced, diced, chopped and skewed with a hefty injection of original production, programming and homegrown field recordings from his travels around the world.  What’s resulted is a 45 minute multi-generational sonic journey, touching on sounds from Senegal, Jamaica, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Peru, Brazil, Italy, Korea, Guadeloupe, and Zimbabwe, that reflect the depth of the Captain’s crates and his skills behind the boards. “Mystery Trip” is not just a DJ mix nor a collection of simple edits but rather an entirely new piece of work from C.P. - a love letter  to the funky sounds of our planet and the rare vinyl it hides in dusty junk shops, back alleyways, basements and attics.
 
Each limited-edition “Mystery Trip” Cassette tape comes with a free digital download of separated tracks/edits, along with the full digi-mix. As an added bonus, Captain Planet is hand-painting an exclusive batch of Walkmen with his own one-of-a-kind designs, which will be available as a premium pack with the tape at the Bastard Jazz store. DJ Cocheze (named after an Apache Native American Chief spelled “Cochise”) got the chance of a lifetime to rock one show with KRS-One on February 18th 2005 at the age of 18, where he was chosen to be his personal tour DJ for the next 4 years. He has performed hundreds of shows with KRS-One in over 20 countries including, Japan, Africa, Spain, France, England and the United States. Not only has Cocheze shared the stage with stellar artists such as Guru, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Tribe Called Quest, Rhazel, Method Man, & MC Lyte, but has also dominated the turntabilist battle scene. Recently he became the Denver Regional DMC Champion on May 11th 2012. Cocheze will be putting his skills to the test at the DMC US Finals on August 4th in NYC. 

He completed a degree in Recording Engineering at FullSail Real World Education in Orlando FL, which fine-tuned his battle skills and helped him win multiple Hip Hop Elements Battles, as well as, many Southeast Regional Guitar Center Battles in the Florida area. Cocheze now resides in San Francisco, California, where the opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s most talented artists/DJ’s and rock some of the biggest parties the Bay has to offer, has become his reality. His time in SF has been well spent broadening his musical aptness to include other genres of music such as House and Electro, and he continues to build his arsenal as a musician, not just a DJ. Cocheze sets himself apart from your ordinary DJ’s by delivering an open format style of mixing, including his extreme technical abilities as a conditioned turntablist. The Sky is the limit for this young DJ, after sharing the stage with some of the worlds biggest artists we can now see Cocheze rising to the top.
