Pleased to say that this 120 minutes defined a generation. 1999 was such a golden year for Trance music and many people reference this very set as opening their eyes to the power of Trance.

It's hard to believe how groundbreaking and well-polished some of the tunes that I selected and played out, really were!! This mix still sounds timeless judging by today's standards and features tunes from the likes of Tiesto and Ferry Corsten, long before they became household names. It will appeal to all those who love it fresh, raw and pumping!!! Ladies and gentlemen, 20 years ago to this month, I created my second Essential Mix (of four) which was broadcast on BBC Radio 1.

February's REBOOTED event at Network was absolutely amazing! The fifth instalment of our successful night. It was all about letting the music do the talking, and that's exactly what happened!!

I also wanted to express my gratitude for all the feedback I received. Whether it was verbal or the many happy, familiar faces that turned up at the event, sharing their positive energy, it means a lot to me. This is precisely why we offer great lineups, superb production, and fantastic music - to create an unforgettable experience for everyone who attends. 

My set was filled with phenomenal music, ranging from old purist classics to reworked tracks and modern releases. Some of the standout tunes of the night included Plastic Boy's "Silverbath," PPK's "ResuRection," and Richard Durand's exceptional remix of Ruben De Ronde and Roxanne Emery's "Gold." If you missed out on the event, get ready to hit play and experience the magic for yourself!

There was no doubt that "The White Party Classics" event held at Gatecrasher Birmingham on 26 December 2014, took everybody by suprise. Despite the spontaneity as well as some challenging weather conditions, an authentic, Gatecrasher lineup featuring the likes of Mauro Picotto, Tall Paul, Seb Fontaine, Art of Trance, Talla2XLC, Taucher and myself was enjoyed by all those who attended this special evening. 

My 90 minute set revisited some of those classic Trance tunes which I first broke at the Republic and were featured in many of my closing sets. As Winter is upon us, savour the sentimental warmth of this mix in true Gatecrasher style!!!

Happy New Year everybody!!! I can already anticipate that some great things will happen in 2015. Watch this space ;)......

This month I bring you a rocket of a guest set from Decibel Place! With impeccable taste, rock solid skills behind the decks and infectious energy he's one to watch for sure! 

Decibel Place is a 21-year-old DJ based in Liverpool, known for his driving take on hardgroove techno. His sound channels the raw, percussive spirit of the early 2000s, taking cues from legends like Eric Sneo and Chris Chambers, while also drawing inspiration from the intensity of modern artists such as CULT and Levzon. Blending classic grooves with a contemporary edge, his sets are built to energise today’s dance floors. With a sharp sonic identity and an expanding catalogue, Decibel Place is hoping to shape the next wave of hardgroove.

Kinetic Global Trance Gathering 2017 in Manchester, I thought that this set perfectly summed up the year from the latest Beatport number 1 with Aly & Fila "Shadow" to "Sweet Release" and our fresh collaboration with Marcella Woods. The Republic of Gatecrasher event held in June signified 10 years since the iconic venue in Sheffield known as the Republic and spiritual home to so many of the Gatecrasher faithful, tragically burnt to the ground.

10 years on and the music still plays on! We all grew with the music from 1997-2007 and felt obliged to hold a commemorative party so as to celebrate those many joyous memories experienced at this momentous institution. Gatecrasher has always been about inclusion and was not only a tribute to all our regulars but also to those who never have had the opportunity to experience it first-hand.

In order to make this event unique, I wanted to try something different and completely out of my comfort zone! After many lengthy discussions, I made the conscious decision to go back to back with the entire main room lineup. From early doors until the final tune, everybody who attended was guaranteed a nostalgic, musical journey.

Post-Republic of Gatecrasher blues and it was really pleasing to have received so many positive and thought provoking comments with regard to how musically diverse it actually was. I wholeheartedly agree and thought it necessary to share these wonderful sets. Just listening back, you'll be really hard pushed to find such a wide range/variety of Trance to encapsulate one night!!!

Many thanks go out to Paul Pearson, Guy Ornadel, Matt Hardwick, M.I.K.E. Push, Marco V, Matt Darey and DuMonde (JamX) who all contributed to this amazing event by joining me on this 9 hour adventure. Now you can too ;).

John Askew Hard Trance Ending Luminosity Festival 2019

I've had off long enough from doing shows.  And though I am not yet going to decide if I am re-starting any weekly radio show, here is almost 4.5 hours straight of old and new music... MOST of it from my back catalog, some of which i haven't played in over a DECADE.  This really took me back,  Enjoy!

Connor is an experienced and passionate trance DJ from the North of England. As a clubber first and foremost he is the kind of DJ who comes from the dance floor and understands how to move the crowd.

The Lancashire DJ who grew up in Hyde (part of Greater Manchester), spent his fondest memories as a clubber in the late 90's and 2000's in the golden era of trance, frequenting clubbing institutions and infamous all-nighters throughout the north and midlands, Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, Cream, Passion, Insomniacz and Sundissential were where he fell deeply into a sound and culture that went on to shape his entire lifestyle. Connors main haunt was 60 minutes away, travelling almost every week from Manchester to Sheffield to The Republic, the home of the legendary Gatecrasher. 

Within his crowd, Connor was the trancespotter, the guy who made it his mission to find the track names and labels he heard in clubs, leading to an endless well of trance knowledge. This made him stand out from the average DJ before he even had decks himself! It wasn't long before his talented DJ friends pushed him to buy a set of Technics 1210's, with their early guidance and his cultured ear, he never looked back. Connor took his time honing his mixing skills while still remaining a dedicated clubber, always learning and being hugely influenced by heros of genre such as Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren and of course Gatecrasher residents Matt Hardwick and Connor's trance idol Scott Bond.

Connor made numerous mixes to promote himself, sending out demo after demo to clubs and promoters across England. Off the back of this, gigs started to roll in and he was invited to play in a DJ competition based in Liverpool with the winner being awarded a set at Nation, the famous home of Cream. Connor won his heat and got to the final where he came runner up to no other than Jordan Suckley.

Connor stepped away from DJ’ing to start a family. Fast forward to the present day Connor now a family man with a young daughter was ready to step back into the scene he has always loved.

Connor now DJing again in the digital era and now being influenced as before by Paul Van Dyk and Scott Bond plus artists such as John Askew, Simon Patterson, Will Atkinson and newer talents such as James Dymond, Kinetica and Allen Watts. 

Connor says "Since my return to the trance scene I have had a show on Experience Trance with a monthly show/podcast called 'Here and Now' with myself and various guest mixers. I have done many gigs, playing for many brands such as Rebooted, Insomniacz, Euphoric, Eden Ibiza, Itika Ibiza, Subteran, Fortify, Agenda, Day Breakerz, Euphoriance, Up:Rise, Saturday Sessions, Trance Junkiez, Transonic. Pres Nav’s Trance Party, plus many more Playing alongside some of the biggest names in the industry.
Trance is my life again outside of my family and the passion is burning inside me to play and produce a modern take on the the kind of trance I've always loved, danced to, explored and promoted"
