@moma_ready arrived on a wave of acclaim that hasn't at all subsided in the four or so years since his debut. The NYC-based skateboarder and musician runs the Haus of Altr label and also makes ambient, as well as films. He has had particular success producing with AceMo as AceMoMA, such as on April's standout album, A Future. As the title suggests, it took in the dustier end of 90s jungle, rough-edged house and Detroit techno, but turned out something forward-looking. Whatever MoMA Ready does, it comes through a proudly Afrofuturist lens, always with unbridled energy and the ability to make you question everything you thought you knew. 

This week's mix packs an awful lot in. It - of course - eschews the traditional model of a slow build towards a peak-time workout. Instead, the music just goes where MoMA wants, whenever he wants. Even the transitions play second fiddle to the selections, which is fine when the tunes are this good. Some are deep, some are smooth, there are lo-fi bangers and seductive rollers. It's the sound of a DJ going all in without a care in the world.

Ahead of the work we are doing with Detroit veteran Craig Gonzalez this year, here is a mix he’s done exploring new rhythms and soundscapes. We thought it would be prudent to share a mix of one of his many fresh perspectives, where he explores something we at IT find very compelling — new juxtapositions of polyrhythms and drum and bass within a deeply hypnotic techno context. 

"I’ve really been enjoying exploring the sonic space between techno and drum and bass. What excites me about this fusion is how it challenges both myself and fans of these genres, as it often defies the expectations of each. The introduction of polyrhythms takes it even further, pushing the boundaries and making the music feel truly genre-agnostic. In this space, the emphasis shifts away from traditional structures, focusing more on rhythm and context than on genre conventions.

Not one to engage in dogmatic restraint, Cloutier keeps developing his vision through carefully curated selections and an equally impeccable mixing technique. Boasting the variety and precision of his releases for his own imprint Palinoia, the present mix was recorded live at The Chinese Laundry in Sydney last year. Playing the main room open-to-close, Cloutier put together this mix as an evolving story and, much like the crowd of that night which proved highly receptive to the narrative, we hope this one will resonate with you. A most exquisitely complex and deep-diving plunge into Cloutier’s shape-shifting headspace, alternating heavyweight punch and dubbed-out minimalism with swashes of textured membranes and faux-organic, modular-like intricacies, this mix is as elusively impossible to pigeonhole as it proves sophisticated in its design.
