Hello we are Idylic - John Dill (@johndill) & illich Mujica (@illich-mujica). 

Back in 2020 we were in a cabin in the mountains in the middle of the pandemic amongst new learning DJ’s. It was a celebration of illich’s birthday and the first time we played together. 

We already loved the music each one of us played and it was an unsurprising moment of “let’s b2b!” back then. The flow was full of melodic groove with a rich track collection only found in the library of 2 well-seasoned selectors. 

We would come together here and there to jam when the planets aligned, and this is the first official recorded DJ set of ours; live at Burning Man 2023 @ Waffles & House.

This is pure Idylic Housey daytime vibes, before the storm came through, and before the Wafflolympics’ Syrup licking competition. (If you know you know…) ;)

Disco Lips is a sound camp located around the 10&B area. Equiped with a state of the art 60,000 Watt sound system, custom lighting arrays and "beach side" view of deep playa, it is amongst the best that the playa provides.

The range of emotion that this set embodies, reflects the depth of joy I felt in reuniting with all my friends and fellow burners this year.

For me, it was a rare opportunity to explore and unleash the full spectrum of sounds and textures that define my musical journey and background.

Since we formed COMMUNICATE we don’t often get booked to play on our own. We adore playing together, and if we were ever forced to choose we’d happily never play on our own again. However, there are the rare times that we are asked to play a solo set. This is one of those times.

It was a hot, sweaty night in The City of Sails, so some hot, sweaty music was required for the K Rd basement. Love and thanks to Wattsson for asking Cyril Orson to play her birthday party, to Andy, Leslie, Helen, Seb, Pa and Chingi for making Ink such a great place to party and to all the revellers for stomping the floor right through this closing set.

So sit back and take a listen, Cyril Orson will be your pilot for the next two hours of this ride.

His journey began in 1989 at just 15 years old, driven by a fascination with sampling and beat-mixing. Self-taught and deeply inspired by the art of turntablism, Craig honed his craft and earned his first residency at Christchurch’s legendary Palladium Nightclub, the epicentre of the local nightlife scene at the time. Over the years, Craig’s musical repertoire has evolved from Hip-Hop, RnB, and Funk to Trance, and now encompasses an eclectic range of house music styles. Known for his ability to read the room, energize the dancefloor, and create unforgettable moments, Craig’s sets have become synonymous with feel-good vibes and timeless memories. Having performed at countless club nights, parties, and festivals, Craig has earned a reputation as a reliable and dynamic presence behind the decks. His impressive resume includes supporting global icons such as Fatboy Slim, Darude, and Krafty Kuts, as well as opening for Synthony and playing at Ministry of Sound events. Craig has also graced the stages of major festivals like Electric Avenue, Rhythm and Alps, The Gathering and Nostalgia. Some history - 
When Craig stepped into Christchurch’s and ultimately New Zealand’s most opulent Night Club, The Palladium, he held  the residency for the 5 nights of the week. Craig was the resident DJ right on the inception of what was acceptable Hip Hop and Electronic Dance Music and was locally famous for stopping a dance track and dropping NWA’s F the Police as they came in and searched for underage patrons. The night would always end with Public Enemy’s Shut em Down mixed with AC/DC’s Back in Black. (No disrespect to the Police, they do a great job and this was just culture in its rawest form). Once a full time and now a part time promoter, Craig understands the dynamics of the business, selling tickets and creating vibes that make punters want more. Partnering with long time friend PZ and playing under the co-lab of DiRTY CA$H, its not unusual to come across a vintage marathon set of old school vinyl. Synonymous for constantly dropping dirty bass lines, familiar riffs and catchy bootlegs the advanced technology has seen Craig progress into 4 deck mixing, sampling and will still pull out some old school scratching along with on the fly remixing.
