South African house music is known for its ability to constantly reinvent itself. And 2019 has been no different. A new sound which seems to have originated in the capital city of Pretoria is taking over the airwaves and party goers in Mzansi can’t seem to get enough of it. The sound which is known as “amapiano” is a mix of deep house, gqom all mixed in with the jazzy, soulful sound of a piano. Artists like Kabza De Small and JazziDesciples are putting a new spin in the culture of South African music and they are creating a new wave in the house music scene. Amapiano is setting the airwaves on fire and music lovers all over the country are falling for them every step of the way. From taxi rides in Soshanguve and Mamelodi to street bashes in Mapetla and Mohlakeng the amapiano sound is re-forming the sound of house music in South Africa and taking over the summer like never before.

It's nice to see how the DJ appreciate this music with roots from Angola and Cape Verde, knows it throughout his own culture and also expresses it.

Dj Dameri is from Surinam descent and born and raised in Tha Hague. Ever since childhood he has been violently addicted to music. Because of all the different types of genres been listened to in his house, he is open to almost everything. From Madonna to Whitney Houston and from Michael Jackson to Tupac Shakur. He then also made old-school mixtapes where he recorded quite literally from CD to tapes. 

Around the age of 14 he developed the love for reggae and dancehall and that has been growing over the years. That’s also when he came in touch for the first time with the program Traktor DJ. A year later, he made a first attempt to get started as a Dj, because his love for music had to be expressed. 

When he heard kizomba for the first time, he had no doubts and made the switch. He not only got love for the dance, but as it already been known, a lot more for the music. He is a dj in the kizomba scene for over 4 years now, and as he promised that not only in the kizomba scene, but also in the other genres he will be there for a lot more years coming.
