Pwny and I spent a good deal of attention to the music selection for our late morning closing set at FnF. We're pretty stoked how it turned out! Straight Swamp Music in all its Deep hues. We were feeling pretty sunshine playful and took it all over the place in search of collecting a bagful of sweat & tears. It goes from badass to silly to tribal to morning epic vibes; we think with a cohesive psychedelic flavor.

We were even able to sneak in our first bona fide track, Swamp Age, at 1:00:00!

Dedicated to my mother, Kathryn Weed, who finally shared a sacred Sunday morning in our 'temple'. My first memory, a music memory, was with my Ma listening to Chuck Mangione "Feels So Good". She remembers it well too, because I apparently said, "Ma, Feeling good". This warm vibe has guided my whole musical life.

Dao & Pwny - Temperatures Of Love - FnF 2015

Live 7am Sunday morning at the legendary Endup (its rough period is over btw). I don't normally go balls-out funky house partytown, but we were only slotted 1 freekin hour each, so I went sweatballs on that place. Sean Murray and I stayed up all night getting in the mood for spanking that place with our take on the Endup vibe. I just went with it and put together something I'm kinda liking upon review, but it definitely is more of a fast-paced stompy funk vibe with 'bold overlays' (that's my spin on half-drunk and brave). It worked well enough, they hollared and clapped, I dripped on the mixer, and we all left with sweaty funkballs.

Endup In Sweaty Funk- Dao - 1-17-16

Been spinning a long time, 29 years, more than half my life.  Have spun nearly every genre, have vacillated between taking this very seriously and not giving a fuck.  It is more than a hobby, this is integrating an artistic conversation spanning the globe and it is my passion.  This particular conversation we’ve been having in the Deep (house/tech/breaks) arena is particularly dope, and I’m excited to be a participant by spinning & producing that which moves my ass and soul, and raises my hands to the sky.  If asked, I'll say I spin Swamp music... humid Deep House/Breaks/Tech with vivid palates. &#13;

Mixing is my zen-state.  It isn’t an intentional act as much as it is communion with sound, with the muse.  I don’t plan Sets.  My mantra is the ‘right song at the right time’, and you’re never going to answer that question until you’re in the moment.  I kicked the vinyl habit in ‘05, but I still use CDJs..  You can hear the excitement in a live-mixed set, when there’s no net, when the DJ is a sneeze away from a trainwreck.  I like a slippery beat or two, to flash your cards, to show this is real, this is Now, and we’re deep in it, together.  I also only like to mix deep, 3 mins or so.  It isn’t deep music unless you mix it deep, over your head in sounds, dancing with them as if Tai Chi, rolling them into another as if an Akido master.  The tracks dictate how they want to be mixed, the moment dictates what energy wants to emerge next; a DJ isn’t there to be intentional, we’re supposed to be receptive.  You can hear the difference.&#13;
