Inspired by some incredible tracks that found their way to me recently by my talented producer friends, this one’s all about that feel-good energy and getting your groove back.

Sean Dexter Roots dj mix

Sean has been a dj, music producer, radio host and party promoter for over 30 years. His unique take on house music and creative mixing have taken him all over the United States and Canada. Sean’s successful radio show BayAreaBeatbox ran from 2011 to 2024 starting on Pure Radio Holland and ended on Underground Kollektiv Radio in the UK. This show featured sets from Sean and hosted several artists like Paul
Johnson, James Curd, Jay Tripwire and others. Along with his own show he has also been featured on podcasts and mix shows around the globe. Sean’s original productions and remixes have been featured on Selekta Recordings, SoulJack Digital, Deepen Sound and many others. He has collaborated on remixes and productions with Jay Tripwire, Sen~Sei, George JJ Flores and others over the years.
In 2024 Sean relocated back to his home town Philly and has played several gigs in the city with recent gigs in San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego and Chicago.
Sean has been featured in Chicago’s 5Magazine.

Ultra rare sounds in a lost mix from one of the greatest DJs in the world. Paul Johnson mixing electro, synth and '80s classics in a unique throwback mix called RETROJACKTIVE.

Where This Mix Came From:
For a time, Paul Johnson was posting mixes to SoundCloud almost weekly and would delete them when they reached 100 downloads. I was one of the 100. Sometimes people re-uploaded them on SoundCloud or Mixcloud. But looking back through 5 Mag's archives, I found this mix again and realized that not only had it disappeared from the internet, but even the word "retrojacktive" turned up 0 search results. This might be the only copy of a very rare side of Paul Johnson. 

We have about three or four other mixes like this — either vanished from the internet or available in very restricted formats.

This is my last mix of 2025!
Since coming back to DJing in July, I’ve made 10 new mixes. This mix feels like things settling in comfortable, focused, and back where they should be.
A lot of the music in this mix was gifted to me by friends who are producers, or comes from artists I want to actively support. I’m grateful for the trust and generosity, these are real pieces of work, and I don’t take that lightly.
