Inspired by Sylvan Esso's "Hey Mami", Mama was written and composed as a push-back to the men who attempt to exercise control over womxn's bodies, with their words and gaze. Echoing phrases that are shouted, muttered and whispered in public spaces on a daily basis in order to drain womxn of their power, the track hints at the possibility of an alternative future; a future where womxn's bodies are theirs and theirs alone.

Ruminating on themes of motherhood and death; ayanda has gently reflected on her relationship between her mother and daughter, emphasizing the values of sisterhood and resilience.
