For those interested in the equipment used to produce this I've tried to maintain the integrity of an all analog/outboard signal path as far as possible.
Drums: Roland 909 / Korg Volca / Boss DR-660
Bass: Korg ER-1
Pad/lead: Casio CZ 3000 through Akai 4000DS tape machine
Resonant lead: Waldorf Pulse
Mixer: Soundcraft Delta 200

Analog communication

Once again for those interested the main lead line is a Waldorf Pulse being 'played' in real time and recorded live, drums are a mix of Volca, ER1 and DR 660, Pad is M1 and other bits are Casio CZ3000. I have just added an Alpha Juno 2 to the studio which didn't make it into this track but will definitely feature in the next one.

Some new bits in the studio getting tested out on this - mainly the Roland Alpha Juno 2 working the bottom end, I think I'll open it up more next time to really get it singing. The pad that comes in around the 4 minutes mark is from an Access Virus, but distorted through an old Akai 4000DS tape machine and my Soundcraft Delta desk to give it that grit.

I hope you enjoy this mix as much as I enjoyed putting it together. I know a lot of people like sets that build in one tight style, gently fluctuating around one level, and this is a real art in itself. But, I think I've always enjoyed a bit more contrast in sets, especially in shorter sets where you have less time to build a mood. So I've tried that here. Next time I'll do something longer more subtle and building. The image is from this New Year I spent partying in Rotterdam.

Great care and attention to detail are the traits running through all his tracks, where "#2.3" rides a perfect line of functional floor worker with a chunky, hypnotic groove and gritty atmospherics spinning through the mix.

I wanted to create a track that allowed the equipment in my studio to start feeding back on itself, cross modulating and generally being its own master, I imposed some control on it but let it breathe as much as I could. Some pieces of gear were in a constant state of feedback. Among the mainly analog equipment used for this track were a Roland Alpha Juno, Waldorf Pulse and DSI Tetra. 

The image is from a site I came across on the outskirts of Warsaw, Poland. I have no idea if the concrete blocks were part of an unfinished or demolished structure, but the form struck me as complete in itself.

First of a two part session I finished recently. I enjoyed making this track. It's mainly the Juno 106 and DSI Tetra holding it together, with most of the parts recorded live. 

I wanted to get across that understated mood in the early morning of a club when too much movement in a track can pull you out of the moment, but too little can become tiring. The photo is from my journey home through South East London, but it could be anywhere in England really.

Volume one of a new all-vinyl mix series, created with rare and underground records covering a wide range of styles, that I have sourced from digging in the record shops in NYC, San Francisco, London and beyond.
