Here is my 'Trunk of Funk' mix and interview that I was invited to do from the Funk & Soul national treasure and hardest working man in showbiz - Craig Charles for his Saturday Night Funk and Soul show on BBC6 Music.
It went out at the end of January 2022 and features a few of my favourite producers and friends in the music world including Mighty Mouse, Shaka Loves You and Young Pulse. My own track 'Jimmy's Groove' is also featured in the mix which is now available to download from Bandcamp.

This mix is all original early 80's boogie - a few B sides and a few slightly more well known ones.... finishing with a bit of disco - as much as I love a good edit - sometimes it feels good to go back to the original record and play it in it's pure form....:)

This is a contemporary funk inspired track that samples the vocals of 70's and 80's funk and soul singer/songwriter Leon Haywood. His unique vocals are complimented with a modern twist using original instrumentation and production that culminates in a piece of music that has a relaxed and soulful yet groovy feel to it.

This mix is inspired by some of my recent sets at clubs and festivals – the mainly house tracks have been tried and tested in almost all my sets and have kept the dancefloor moving and grooving throughout my sets. It’s an unapologetically fun and uplifting set – with a bit of a classic flavour running through with tracks from Gat Décor and Romanthony but mixed with some contemporary artists who I love like ‘Make A Dance’, Dr. Packer and Psychemajik. I’ve also included a couple of tracks released in 2020 that never got a chance to work their magic on the dancefloor (as dancing was banned!)  because of the dreaded Covid so it’s been a pleasure to play them out in sets recently. I always love mixing the old with the new in all my sets and I loved creating this mix as it’s taken me back to some fun moments in the last few months including playing at Camp Bestival, Shindig Festival and We Out Here and also some recent club sets in Bristol and Bath.

DJ Emma - The Unity Agency Club Mix

The story behind the track goes something like this. For some time I have wanted to produce a track that features the vocals of Diane Charlemagne. She is more well known for her incredible vocals on many of Moby’s tracks and of course – Inner City Life by Goldie as well as providing vocals for numerous Drum and Bass tracks in the early 00’s. 
I met Diane way back in 1999 when I was studying for my degree in music in Bath. She had come down to lead a vocal workshop. At the time I was working in a club in my hometown in Salisbury – my boyfriend and 2 of his friends had rented a building and were trying to make the impossible possible in our quiet medieval city of Salisbury and create events that focussed on the UK Garage, Drum & Bass, House and Breakbeat scenes that we all loved. It was a risk in a small city such as Salisbury, but we were all passionate and determined to try and make it a success. 
I spoke to Diane about the club after the vocal workshop and she offered to come down from London one night with some friends and support it. I didn’t think for one minute she would actually come – but she stayed true to her word and came a few weeks later.
Very sadly, she passed away from Cancer in 2015 at the age of 51 and for a few years I have wanted to produce a track that pays tribute to her. I searched for an accapella and found one that inspired me to make this track. 
I have used the vocals of ‘Why’ by Carly Simon sung by Diane and produced a track that is entirely different from the original song, but hopefully keeping the melancholic, soulful and balearic feel that the original had. 
She was a truly wonderful, down to earth and supportive person who was taken far too young and I hope I’ve done her justice with this production.

Give Me The Night is a bouncy, uplifting house track - complete with a jazzy piano riff and chopped up vocals - it's the first time I have experimented with my own voice in a production. It's already been supported by BBC Introducing in the West and hope it will be a feature on a few dancefloors in the coming months.

Both of them suffered an acquired brain injury in their late teens that nearly caused them to lose their lives. But - here they are - proving that there is life after a brain injury and how music is a powerful way for them to express themselves, learn new skills and in Dave's case - rekindle old skills (as he was a talented DnB MC before the knife attack that caused the brain injury)
