Kaarbanik Sound proudly presents ‘Unsound’, the debut album by @plurasound (the new project by Bristol based producer and DJ formerly known as @findingthings). Marking the 14th release on the imprint, in this album Plura shows us her unique view of techno, ambient and bass music, through an intricate use of field recordings, analogue synths and processed vocals. The alluring, ethereal production gives the sense of freedom through its contrasting melodies and sounds, and draws the listener ever closer to the music by combining soothing and cavernous harmonies with rhythmic wreckage, bass weight and found sound. 

The conceptual album, consisting of seven tracks (including collaborations with @hartta & @ektosounds) and original illustrations by Matty Zak, explores the ups and downs of the music industry and its potential effects on mental health. All sales from the album (released digitally and on cassette tape) will be donated to the Music Minds Matter / Help Musicians UK charity (https://www.musicmindsmatter.org.uk/help-musicians-uk). Cassettes limited to 50 copies.

"Shade, the 7th instalment from Test Your Might comes with an unusually deeper vibe. Think along the lines of post-dub future sound, but much more impactful in a club setting with an almighty retro 8-bit style bassline driving through the track. Jazzy MJ Cole reminiscent keys and Chords keep the deepness and musicality moving, helping to subdue the otherwise untamed beast like Black Widow taming the Hulk. Should certainly be a staple in the  "Garage heads and connoisseur" sets, or when the MC wants to get deep and wax lyrical life stories.
Might kicks of 2020 with an atomic blast. This single comes jam-packed with garage, grime, bassline and everything in-between, oozing UK. Expect big things from this one - Deep and melodic but rough and ready at the same time. Gamma infused artillery designed for club warfare."

A.D.O.R. X Photek / One For The 90s

So this track was going to go on 'Up and Down' on Archive, but it was considered too tricky and a dancefloor smasher was needed, being replaced by 'Mara Jade'.
I made this in 1999 as I played it on dubplate (I know, can you imagine being in Music House cutting and listening to this. What must they all have thought?) at the Reinforced 10 Year anniversary at Fabric, the third room which had IG, Phil, Orin, Gilles, me, and Dego...a kind of proto Co-op, with the Bugz present but not spinning. But with the curious addition of Josh Wink, whom Dego and Marc knew pretty well, and who was impressed by me and BUB for the simple fact I mixed it in a 4/4 and played weird 3/4 beat experiment to the packed 3rd room of Fabric on a Friday night.
It is built around The Carpenters 'All I Can Do' with which I was a bit obsessed at the time. I only have this M4a of it, so please enjoy it for free.

A footwork inspired ode to one of our favourite hip hop classics, “Supa Star” is taken from Bennelux’s forthcoming “mixtape”, ‘Old to the New’, available solely as a Bandcamp download and limited vinyl release on Astigmatic Records, from 17 July. 

According to Astigmatic, “Bennelux is creating a parallel footwork universe as an alternative to golden age hip hop. 90s hip hop was a musical signpost to millennials. Both the Astigmatic Records crew and Bennelux duo’s roots are deeply connected to four elements of hip hop culture. ‘Old to the New’ is a combination of early musical inspirations blended with modern 160BPM juke and the footwork world.

‘Old to the New’ is a sentimental journey through the culture that has inspired a new wave of artists – from graphic designers, painters, directors and dancers to electronic music producers. 
Bennelux is a producer duo based in London (UK) and Poznan (Poland). Benncart and Lux Familiar specialise in high energy juke music, footwork, jungle and everything else based around 160BPM. On the ‘Old to the New’ mixtape they’re paying homage to 90s hip-hop from New York.”

“We wanted to go back in time and create something completely fresh and unique moving it to the current fast-moving field of juke and footwork descending from Chicago. Most of our songs started from samples that were previously being used in some of the classic hip-hop tunes that shaped our musical taste,” says Benncart
