Brooklyn Boogie!

We first got hip to Jesse at his Body Music night at Bembe, here in Brooklyn, which ran for a whopping seven years. However, he's been DJing in NYC and worldwide since 1999. Known for his diverse and eclectic sets (usually accompanied by live musicians), you can expect a mix of vibes, tempos, and genres—from Nigerian disco records to deep, dirty and dusty house, booty-shaking soul, bass-heavy percussive jams, and beyond. He's played with everyone from LTJ Bukem to Africa Bambaata and Robert Hood, from Paris to Berlin to Tokyo, at clubs like Cielo, Limelight, Watergate, and more.

I made this mix months ago, before the world all went to hell and kind of forgot about it until now, thought it might help you travel to another time and place for a bit. It’s an all vinyl selection of Japanese funk, soul, and pop from the 70s and 80s. I've been DJing in NYC and worldwide since 2000. I play a mix of vibes, tempos, and genres—from Nigerian disco records to deep, dirty and dusty house, booty-shaking soul, bass-heavy percussive jams, and beyond.
