I've been spinning progressive house since the early 2000's, and over the years I have recorded some demo sets along the way. I thought I would compile them all in one place to make them easy(er) to find for people that like this type of more mellow, chillax, emotion-invoking music. More recently I started the "Prog Sessions" series, and I'll continue to add those here as they come out. Hope you enjoy!!

Gotek's Progressive House Demo Sets - Melodic and Emotive Sounds.. ^_^

Hey guys, welcome to the next iteration of Prog Sessions, April 2024 edition!! This one sort of happened by accident; I’d been working on my set for Solarstone and I was going through all of my recently purchased music, and for tracks that I thought were too mellow for the Solarstone show I was throwing them into a folder I just called “April Prog”, but I noticed later that I actually had a ton of great tracks in there so made a note to go back and see if I had the right elements to get a playlist to work.. I wanted to record a set to listen to for Saturday night BBQ, something I frequently do haha. So, I did, on that Saturday the 13th, this is what happened, and after I listened to it I knew I had a keeper. Probably “TMI” haha, but that’s literally how this set came to be, whereas many of my previous "Prog Sessions" sets took me numerous tries and probably weeks of trial and error to get to a version that I thought was good enough for streaming, so this was a pleasant surprise!! :D Anyway, without going into too much additional boring detail, I welcome you to Prog Sessions, April Edition, and hope that you enjoy the mix as much as I did recording it!! PS: the photo is one I took on my vacation to Germany back in October of 2022 for Oktoberfest; that was from a morning walk through a huge square in Stuttgart called Schlossplatz, and it has these two enormous and beautiful fountains, which were built in honor of King William of Württemberg, in 1863. The two landmarks are popular sights for tourists and visitors to Königstraße in Stuttgart, and I’ve always loved seeing them whenever I am there. I thought that photo would be perfect for this mix. “Prog Sessions, April 2024 Edition” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live April 13th, 2024

Hey Guys, getting the next iteration of my Progressive House series, “Prog Sessions” in just under the wire for May here haha. I was figuring that I would call it “June Edition”, but since the cover art is an awesome photo, taken over my house by my neighbor across the street, of the Aurora Borealis caused by the solar storm that so many people saw around the world during the month of May, and also in honor of my Dad’s 87th Birthday, which is TODAY (May 30th), I am sticking with “May Edition” for this one!! I have been struggling with time lately, as my “real job” has been super busy, so I haven’t had much time to work on DJ stuff lately. But I (of course) keep listening and constantly buying new music, and I had this massive stockpile of awesome new tunes building up, so much so that I really had a severe case of writer’s block with this one and had no idea where to start. So last weekend I spent hours downloading and arranging tracks and got it narrowed down to about 50 “keeper” tracks, then managed to narrow it down to the lucky 13 on this set, and recorded it on Monday, memorial Day Holiday.. I just recorded this the one time and that was it; all the tracks just worked together beautifully, which is rare for a one-time recording session!! Lastly, I usually try to put 14 tracks on these Prog demos, but Warung’s EPIC track, “All We Have Is Time”, seemed like such a great place to end it, and also loved the irony because all I DON'T have is time these days haha, so I stopped the recording there. “Prog Sessions, May 2024 edition” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live May 27th, 2024

Hey guys, hope you’ve been having an awesome summer!! Hard to believe that it is nearly September, when summer starts winding down, kids go back to school, and the beginnings of Fall start showing up here and there, my favorite season. Well, as you can tell, it’s been a very slow summer, DJ-gig-wise, which has kind of worked out for me because I have been buried at my job all summer long, but I also really miss playing in the clubs, and am hopeful the Seattle Trance scene will start picking up again with more shows in the Fall. Meanwhile, I never stop listening to, buying, and collecting music, so shows or no shows, I’ll always continue recording my live demo mixes. And, speaking of, I just recorded the latest in my “Prog Sessions” progressive house demo series, last weekend. I had a lot of amazing music to choose from, and had to spend a lot of time whittling it down to just 15 tracks, but I was really happy the way this one turned out, with brand new releases from some of my go-to progressive artists including Genix, ANUQRAM, PROFF, LTN, Paul Arcane, and I was SOOOO happy the insanely awesome Yeadon remix of Genix’s “Lights, Sound, Camera, Action” released the very day I recorded the mix!!! I had been checking Beatport every day since I first heard it, and it’s definitely my Fave track on the mix. Anyway, I’ve found that to keep the quality level to my very high standards for these things, my goal is always to have a set where I never feel like fast forwarding through any tracks, therefore I usually won’t have enough A-list tracks stored up to record one every month (I am quite picky haha), but I will try to get one out every other month. And meanwhile, I’ll continue working on my “Mission Trance” uplifting trance demo mixes as well, with about the same bi-monthly cadence haha. As usual, hope you enjoy!! Cheers! -Mark a.k.a. Gotek

“Prog Sessions, August 2024 Edition” a Progressive demo mix, recorded live Aug 17th, 2024

Hey guys, hope everyone’s having a Happy New Year so far! So, as I mentioned on my Facebook page, I tried to get this next iteration of my “Prog Sessions” demo series finished in December. I think I recorded it at least four times, and each time I felt it wasn’t quite ready for uploading here and released into the wild, it could be better. So I kept whittling away at it, and now it’s practically an entirely different mix than what I started with, but I am very happy with it. It might even be my favorite of the series so far haha. So (for me at least) the wait was worth it. Anyway, we are all our own wort critics I suppose, but I love every track on this mix, and love the journey through sound aspect of this mix, with a little something for everyone, some twists a turns through mostly instrumental melodic Progressive sounds, some more Housey, some a little more moody and ambient Deep Progressive “Guy J” kind of vibes, and even a dash of Progressive Trance. The highlight of this set is one of the only truly vocal tracks in the mix, the LTN remix of “Wait Forever” by Estiva. I first heard a bootleg of this track on YouTube probably a year ago and was so in love with this track, but it never released. Finally, I JUST found a radio edit of it, and had to use some looping and hot cues to make it work in this mix, but I just can’t get enough of this gorgeous track. Anyway, I hope you like this set as much as I enjoyed spinning it! Not sure when I’ll get my next one out, but I’ll do my best to keep them coming ASAP haha. Cheers! -Mark, a.k.a. Gotek

“Prog Sessions, January 2025 Edition” a progressive house demo mix, recorded live Jan 11th, 2025

Hey guys, hope everyone’s having a great summer so far! So, I finally got this next iteration of my “Prog Sessions” demo series recorded over the 4th of July weekend! You may have noticed that I have taken a bit of a break on the DJ front this year, and that is primarily because of my actual career “day job” has finally gotten to the point where the workload and stress of my job kind of kills my energy level to work on music during the weekends. Plus, sadly, the Trance/Progressive scene in Seattle is going through a bit of a dry spell, not as many local Trance shows or opportunities for me to be an opener DJ for a headliner, etc. especially since several of my old and beloved “stomping-grounds” NW DJ clubs from yesteryear closed down during COVID.. However, rest assured, the passion will never truly die, and regardless of whether I am posting sets or not, I am still constantly listening, researching, and collecting new music for future DJ sets, so you know I’ll always be back eventually, like a moth to the flame haha. The good news is that, aside from getting out a new Prog Sessions set for your listening pleasure, I do have an awesome show coming up in a couple weeks at ORA Nightclub, where I will be opening for world-famous and beloved Italian DJ/Producer, Giuseppe Ottaviani, on Friday, July 25th!! Can’t WAIT for that one!! So, lastly, I really liked the way this one turned out, it was a one-time-through dry run that I recorded and thought, “that’s it”, that’s exactly what I wanted, that hypnotic journey through sound, beautiful Progressive House ramping into more ethereal Progressive Trance, my happy place.. The photo is one I took on a vacation that I took to Rome about 10 years ago, the beautiful Basilica of St. John Lateran, the oldest public church in Rome, consecrated in 324 CE by Pope Sylvester I. I always loved the way the sunlight played through the clouds in the backdrop, very magical looking. So, this was in honor of Giuseppe Ottaviani, our Roman Trance Champion, coming to Seattle this month!! =)

On Friday, Feb 7th, 2020, I was incredibly honored to be one of two openers for the Anunabeats Worldwide 09 Tour, featuring world-renown British Trance Producer/DJ, Damion Houchen, better known as GENIX. On top of being a HUGE fan of GENIX, having played so many of his tracks in my sets over the past several years, and also having seen him perform live at one of my all-time favorite Trance festivals I have ever been to, ABGT # 250 on the Columbia River Gorge, which was basically a religious experience, this was just one of those “pinch yourself to see if you’re dreaming” moments for me when I found out I was opening for Genix, dream-come-true kind of stuff. As you would probably expect, Genix was the nicest guy ever, so humble and approachable, and he seemed genuinely stoked to be playing at The Underground which is obviously a much smaller venue than this world-class mega DJ was used to playing at, and Seattle really brought its A-game to welcome him to our city with a sold-out show packed with the greatest Anjuna fans who were SO much fun to play for, and their pure unbridled energy really made it a memorable experience for everyone, especially Genix himself. Anyway, I was asked to keep it on the mellow side for this one so tried to put together a heart-felt set with some beautiful melodies and a blend of some more housey and progressive vibes, with just a little bit of Trance towards the end to get the blood pumping. Opening set for GENIX – Anunabeats Worldwide 09 Tour, The Underground, Seattle, Fri, Feb 7th, 2020

On Saturday, March 21st, I was honored to take part in a streaming DJ show called “Quarantine”, which was put on by the North American Trance Alliance and The DJ Sessions. It was streamed live from a rooftop with a commanding view of downtown Seattle on a beautiful sunny day, and in spite of the circumstances, was a lot fun. This was the 2nd iteration in a row of the Quarantine show, the first of which took place the weekend before from the Underground club where we usually play live. As the Quarantine name aptly suggests, it’s a way for some local NW promoters and DJ’s to try to reach out and spread some cheer and happy vibes to a population largely locked-down and “sheltering in place”, awaiting the end of this nightmare known as COVID-19. It was such a surreal feeling to be playing that beautiful music with the healing sounds of Trance & Progressive on a rooftop that should have been packed with dancing people and smiling faces, to only a skeleton crew of sound technicians and the people who made the stream possible.. But we hope that the vibes that we tried to create helped people escape reality for a few hours and brought smiles to their faces anyway. I loaded up this set with a bunch of new euphoric and melodic tracks from my favorite artists and labels (SILK, ANJUNA, ARMADA). I hope you enjoy, and stay safe out there my friends. On Friday, December 4th, 2020 I recorded this as a demo set for my long-time DJ buddy, Eric Weber, a.k.a. WEB, who was nice enough to invite me to be the guest DJ on his monthly podcast, "United by Music", December edition. This was kind of a special mix for me because I finally got to play a bunch of amazing tracks I had been listening to all summer and had envisioned trying to make a beach-themed progressive soundscape, and was finally able to make it happen and all the tracks seemed to fall together so beautifully together. As I have done several times in the past, I attached an iPad to my mixer and added some ambient oceanic sounds over the music to further enhance the "beachy vibe", and also added an additional floater track at the very end as kind of an "encore", just because I loved this track so much but it was too slow to mix in, turned out kind of neat and dreamy (I think so anyway haha). Lastly, the cool photo I used for the album art was sent to me by a good friend named Andrea who took this gorgeous picture on a walk on Rialto Beach in the Olympic National park in WA, a super-coool photo and I thought it was perfect for the mix (thank you Andrea!!)!! Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone, and I hope that 2021 turns out to be a much better, happier, safer, and prosperous year for all of us than 2020 was!! Cheers everyone!!

December guest mix for "United by Music" podcast  - "Winter Walk On The Beach"

Seattle Trance Alliance (STA) recently had it’s 5-year Anniversary Stream Party, and I was incredibly honored to be on the DJ line-up for this super fun, 2-day event which aired on Fri/Sat, Feb 19th & 20th. Each night had a unique line-up featuring world-class Trance/Progressive headliners, including Solarstone, Myon, Reorder, and Elevven. It also featured several rising star Northwest breakout artists, such as Dimibo, Emerge, and Magnus. Lastly, we had a veritable “dream team” assembly of local Seattle DJ’s, including Des, Johnny Monsoon, Madlon, MarQ, Ophidia, Solarwind, Sunriser, Web, and me (Gotek)! It was SO much fun getting to record our sets live at The Underground, literally my first time setting foot in an actual club in over a year, and even though we only played to a cold, dark, empty club, it just felt unbelievably awesome to be there again. Hoping it’s a foreshadowing of brighter times ahead in the not-too-distant future, but until then, here’s the set I played that Friday evening on Feb 19th. I made sure to load it up with some beautiful and uplifting new Proggy Trance vibes that will be sure to tug at your heart strings (I hope so anyway haha).. Thanks again to the Seattle Trance Alliance; CONGRATS on FIVE solid years of providing the NW with the best in Trance & Progressive from around the world, and creating so many awesome memories and adding so much to the Seattle Trance scene. Seattle's Mark McCarthy a.k.a. DJ Gotek emerged out of the exploding Electronic Dance Music scene in the Pacific Northwest over the past decade+, and has held residencies at some of the hottest DJ clubs in the NW such as The Underground, Club Contour, and Foundation Nightclub in Seattle and Whiskey Bar in Portland, and also has played at an ever growing list of clubs and venues on the west coast. Specifically noted for his euphoric, uplifting, and melodic Progressive and Trance sets over the past decade, DJ Gotek has found himself being invited to open for some of the world's most prolific and iconic Trance and Progressive DJ/Producers, artists such as Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Cosmic Gate, Sunny Lax, Genix, Solarstone, 4 Strings, Aly & Fila, ARTY, Ilan Bluestone, Super8 & Tab, Omnia, Ronski Speed, Orjan Nilson, Roger Shah, Chicane, The Blizzard, Lange, Daniel Kandi, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Gareth Emery, MYON, Max Graham, Andy Moor, Richard Durand, Bobina, Stoneface & Terminal, John OO Fleming, Simon Doty, Dezza, the list grows ever longer.. Note: Mark only uses AIFF lossless quality tracks mostly purchased at Beatport.com (except for producer demos). All mixes were either recorded live in the club or directly from Mark's gear (DJM A9 Mixer, 2 Pioneer CDJ3000's) recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro in WAV format, then professionally sound leveled post-recording, Voice ID Tagged, and  converted to MP3 by Chris Dececio Studios in the UK. EVERY single mix on Mark's Soundcloud was recorded live and in the moment on top-notch Pioneer DJ gear, not mixed with computer software, so they might not be exactly perfect 100% of the time, but they are "real", which is a standard of mix quality, authenticity, care, passion for live mixing, and DJ integrity Gotek is proud of. =)
